Homemade Surge?

What do you think of the postworkout shake I have been using? I am trying to make something similar to Surge that is not as expensive. I have been using about 25 grams of cytosport complete whey or optimum 100% whey gold standard, mixed with 60 grams of NOW Carbogain (Maltodextrin). I put 1.5 teaspoons of Biotest creatine in with this too. Both of the whey powders have hyrolyzed whey in them (doesnt specify ammount). How much better is Surge than what I am taking? Would I notice significant gains if I was taking Surge instead? What can I do to make my post workout shake better?

Thanks, Tyler

i would say if you are a beginner it probably wouldnt matter.

If you want to improve it, add some BCAA’s.

Ditto.

What you are doing is about the closest approximation you are going to get and still have something that tastes remotely decent. But yea, add some BCAAs. How much do you weigh? What are your goals? You could probably tweak the amounts for marginally better results.

I have a few recipes for when Surge is out of stock or I cant afford it

First is economy

1 scoopPowdered gatorade
1 scoop Allmax isoflex

Second

40 cc dextrose
20 cc maltodextrin
1 scoop allmax isoflex
5 grams BCAA
3-5 grams Gluatamine

It tastes pretty good. A long way from Surge in the taste deparment but crystal light can be added as well as splenda.

Never buy the trueprotein.com fast workout recovery drink. I thought it was a good deal, ordered 5 pounds of it. Tastes horrible, like licking the bottom of your shoe.

Also on that note, their proteins taste like shit too. God, Biotest has spoiled us.

I am 17, 5’11", 165 lbs. Bench 1RM: 240, Squat 1RM: 365, Dead 1RM:350. Training for two years. My main goal is to increase explosive strength for sports such as jumping, sprinting, and change of direction. I have been thinking about adding bcaa’s, and having 30 grams of dextrose and 30 grams of maltodextrin insead of just 60 grams of maltodextrin.

Optimum Nutrition Whey does have 5 grams BCAA by the way.

All complete proteins contain BCAAs. So, if you take enough, any whey protein will give you 5 grams worth.

Do you find the trueprotein.com drink to be useful though? I was just about to order some, and I do not care about taste at all, but as long as it works, its fine by me!

If you want something cheaper thats almost as good, just get malto + dex + BCAA + glutamine + Biotest Whey. or cut out the glutamine, and mabey BCAA.

yeah, but not the glutamine, waist of money in my opinion,

Doesn’t gluatamine produce a higher insulin reaction with a peri-workout drink?

A lot of people go with chocolate milk.

The trueprotein drink is a close to Surge as it gets (without the flavouring). I put some crystal light and Splenda in it to make it taste better.

You could also put powdered gatorade in it.

One more mix I use when I cant get malto is just dextrose (70cc) and allmax isoflex (70cc).

I think you can ask for doulbe flavouring on the trueprotien drink.

I love Surge, but can’t allways afford it. But i can’t stomach cheap whey for these alternatives anymore. I just can’t drink it, its so repulsive. Therefore, pancakes with protein folded in just after training. Really finely ground flour with sugar will cause large insulin responses too.

Nothing beats Surge, but if your going to go for alternatives you might aswell use the opportunity to get in something you crave. Rather then these shoddy home knock ups.
