Have been thinking of making my own sled to use for dragging and for rope pulls. Was wondering if anyone out there has made a sled of their own and how you did it.
You can use a tire w/ a piece of plywood in the middle.
Or I just got a piece of plywood, and attached a length of pipe that fits olympic plates. Tie the rope right on the pipe and stack plates on it.
Some other options.
Wheelbarrow without the wheel.
Wooden pallet.
Old car hood.
Or just tie your rope to a car, lawnmower,or gator.
Thanks!
I use a steel “snow scoop” where I flattened part of the handle and drilled a hole to attach the strap. I also made “concrete tires” that are lots of fun but used only for max effort work.

I just made mine out of 2x4s and an old loading pin.
two 3’ sections for runners, tips rounded off like a sleds
four 2’ sections to go across runners, 8" apart
two 2’ sections as support between the runners
2’8" x 2’ piece of ply wood, across the top
~bolted old loading pin on top of platform
~drilled rope holes into ends of runners on the front
Voila…pulling sled. Took me about 2 hours to cut it up and put it together.
I made it wider than the old metal one I had in order to accomodate logs, tires, cinderblocks, etc. Just have to unbolt (4 bolts) the loading pin and I’m ready to rock.
Once the season hits full swing I will paint up the runners with a good coat of polyurethane to keep them from falling apart from moisture.
I found a metal fab/ welding facility in my area. I bought a 1/4" plate 18x20. I had them bend the plate 3" from one 18" end like the bow of a boat in a metal “break”. They welded on a piece of 2" round stock (pipe) in the middle of the now 15x20" flat area. I used a 3/4" hole saw at both ends of the bent up lip to make holes for carabiners. Next, I used my tow strap loop sewn at both ends along with my Super Squats belt from IronMind. $26.00 later… one tough sled.
great ideas guys, thanks!
I made one using 2x6’s. It cam preety good. I will see if I can snag a pic tomorrow.
I have made one out of some old diamond plate, 2" pipe, and a few pieces of angle iron. I cut out a piece in the front and pounded it out with a sledge hammer and attached a carabiner to my nylon strap that runs to the belt. I have used it quite a bit this winter and absolutely love it, even with my rusty cutting and welding skills it only took about 2-3 hrs to fabricate. If you are interested to see what it looks like I am going to pulling tomorrow and will take some photos of it in action.
Derek - That is exactly how I made mine. My job as a maintenance man who has has access to all the goodie like a break press, shear, mill, lathe and TIG/MIG welders allows me to make some cool stuff. I am putting the finishing touches on a power rack this weekend. I’ll have to post pics after I get it done. It has all the bells and whistles. Band pegs, chain mounts for suspended work and 1.5 inch spacing in the bench area. I’ll have no excuse now not to be hitting it!!
