If you can get a combination of equipment to put a boom for squat, bench and a military press аnd you can make dips and chin up. Take a lever, weights and some belts to pin down weights for dips and chin up. If of course you can do these exercises. You don’t need anything else at this point. Will do basic exercises squat, deadlift, bench, military press, dips and chin up. Only these things are quite enough for you to become strong and develop good muscles.
If you have the opportunity you can buy other things like dumbbells, elastics and other gadgets. But the ones I pointed out are the basics.
As a garage gym lifter I’ll add my 2 cents.
I think it depends what your goals are and how you train what you need and if you have a training partner. I usually lift solo but I have safety straps on my squat rack if I’m going for something I think will be a challenge.
Watch out for adjustable home use benches weight capacity. Some only have 500 lb weight limit and that includes your body weight. So if you’re 200lbs 300 most you can load the bar with and you’re right on the edge there.
Bb wise I invested in a quality bar since I use it as much as I do. I cause elite fts on sale with all bars and got one of theee multi bars which I like.
I have around 700 lbs of plate weight.
You can make some hanging cables with stuff you get from Home Depot for about 30-40 dollars. Add a 25 dollar loading pin from rogue and you can do a lot with that. Pull downs pushdowns biceps etc. I made 2 sets of cables and Titan has handles priced pretty nicely (they used to anyways) you can do flies or can put both on one cables for V grip pull downs. A rope attachment also is able to be made at home if you have the right stuff.
I have a hack squat machine I got for 100 bucks it’s older version but works very nicely .
Also don’t underestimate those platforms for dips and pull-ups you see. They aren’t commercial grade but 1 person using them isn’t bad. If you buy the rogue pin and have a dip belt you can rock yourself pretty good. And I got mine for 50 bucks on Facebook.
I was lucky and got a Titan ssb for 160-180 bucks (can’t remember which) axle bar for 20 bucks, and farmer handles for 80 I think. And a set of loadable db handles. I hate these for everything except db rows and lateral raises. Any kind of pressing doesn’t turn out to well cause they’re so long and in the way.
I have loads of bands but I don’t use them as much as I used to since building my own cables.
I’m wanting a deadlift bar. If anyone has a suggestion on who’s a good place to grab one from without paying 500 let me know
Hi everyone
Greetings from india
Hope that everyone is safe
So there is a “curfew” here. No one allowed outside, except for essential services like food and medicine
Today’s question is how to workout by making the most of the limited equipment available
So this is what I have
. Pull up bar
. 7 feet barbell (thin ends)
. Pair of screwable dumbbell handles
. 8 x 10 kg plates
. 4 x 5 kg plates
. 4 x 2.5 kg plates
. 2 resistance bands
Currently doing “bodyweight workout for big guys” by mr. Lee Boyce. It’s very good
What can I use out of normal household stuff to make a temporary squat rack maybe to hold upto 60-100 kilos?
Thank you guys, and stay safe.
Seen @DSmolken use sawhorses (or something similar?) and do zercher squats before
A home gym might be expensive, but it does offer entertainment while all cooped up. If this ends up being a 2-3 month ordeal, being able to train might go a long way for mental health.
I bought quality stuff, and it will still be used once corona is over. Probably far less though. If I end up having kids down the road, it will be beneficial as time will be limited.
Yup, sawhorses! You can do front squats easily from them, can also do the Anderson squat though that’s not so easy to get used to. And you can also use them to make things like Zerchers and overhead presses more convenient, though you can do those just by picking the bar up off the floor. Depending on how easy they are to grab, you can also do dips, or use just one to do inverted rows. Wonderful, very useful things, also for sawing wood, refinishing doors etc.
Edit: without sawhorses you can also do hack squats off the floor.
Here’s that vid of me doing Zerchers - though you could just deadlift the bar, lay it across your thighs, and then put your elbows under it. That’s how Mr. Zercher originally did it, I suppose, but this sure is easier.
Also, you can use dumbbells for weighted pullups, like this.
I’m unfortunately in a two bedroom two bathroom apartment in Manhattan so no room for that. I hate this city.
Just wanted to share something for guys who don’t have any equipment at home.
This is extremely simple and will give a great pump.
For chest: We all know this, Elevated pushups.
Put your feet heightened on a bed or chair, arms regular to wide grip. Crank out as many as you can. 3 sets till failure, doesn’t matter if you can do only 10 or 70 reps, whatever you can do, just do it till failure. 1 to 2 minutes rest between sets.
Next combine these with regular pushups afterwards, same protocol. 3 sets till failure, 1 to 2 minutes rest between sets.
This is so simple, and yet so effective. It maybe gives an even greater pump than doing hardcore bench at the gym.
Rest a bit longer now if needed, then next up.
For Triceps:
Windowsill Overhead Tricep Extension: Stand about 2 steps away from the windowsill or (or table/cabinet, anything you can use)
Grab it firmly with your hands, let yourself drop till about your head reaches the same point as your hands or lower, then push back up. Its basically like doing a overhead cable tricep extension, but instead you are using your bodyweight and gravity.
You’ll be surprised at the pump from this. 3 Sets till failure, 1 to 2 minutes rest between sets.
Combine these with Diamond pushups afterwards, or if you can’t do diamond pushups, narrow regular pushups are fine. If you don’t have much strength left then do them on your knees instead of feet. Again 3 Sets till failure, 1 to 2 minutes rest.
Extremely simple, but the pump is insane!
I just did this. It was good.
Taking 9 pushup sets to failure in one quick workout is something I wouldn’t have done on my own.
Only thing I didn’t feel good about was the windowsill tricep extensions, couldn’t get a groove or proper grip, but I did something anyway. Thanks for sharing.
What are you guys doing during the quarantine?
Show your home gym setup.
I’ve got a set of bands I bought on amazon on a whim, push up bars and some hooks.
Hooks in the ceiling and low/high on the wall.
Total less than $50.
Wife doesn’t know yet that she’s my squat weight for a few weeks.
Janky workouts for a while.
So I had a set of home workout bands (handles etc) delivered the other day,… if you attach them all to the handles, you’re supposed to get 150 lbs of resistance.
Now I’ve never used these before, but having hooked up about 60 lbs worth of bands so I can try out some simple back work, I honestly watched the door physically straining with each rep -lol. I kept picturing the entire door flying off the hinges and slamming me in the face (maybe I’ve watched too many cartoons though).
I’m hoping I’ll be able to use these without always having to go down to my basement for one of the iron support beams.

Ah yes. Dont give yourself the Harry Reid treatment.
I picked up Brian Alsruhe’s (@Alpha) “Corona Bodyweight Program” this weekend. It’s $25 and it made me laugh at points reading it because the workouts will make me want to cry. No equipment required.
Make sure you aren’t pulling in the direction the door opens. You’ve got to pull the other way.
But then I’ll be falling down my basement stairs

I have a hanger hanging thing that sits over the top of a closed door I was going to convert to use bands on until I realized all of the doors in my house open in to the room they are for, which leaves no room on the other side of them to do anything.
Now that is a cartoon in the making. Lmao
Didn’t someone on here put their band on a J hook and when going face pulls it came off and hit them in the eye !! Can’t remember who it was.
It hit Lonnie in the mouth. $10,000 worth of dental work. Thought about that too when I read Stu’s post.
