Home Workout Without Equipment?

Sounds fun. Are you going for bang for your buck? Any specific style of training like powerlifting/building etc.

Why are you getting 2 barbells? Could put the money on one barbell towards any number of other things:

More weight plates is always nice. Maybe a 2.5kg or 1.25kg set if you don’t have already for increment progression. Bumpers plates are nice if u want less noise or plan on anything weightlifting related

Accessories like a weightlifting belt for heavy compound movements. Wrist wraps etc.

Rubber flooring to deadlift off of.

Worst case u could go better quality on the single barbell or rack. A quality bar with centre knurling for another 50 bucks can be super worth.

Id look to have somewhere to do pull ups. Some squat racks have it.

Trap bar would be rather low on my list of home gym things because it doesn’t really do much for me that a barbell can’t but if you like fair enough. I’d go for any number of specialty bars before it.

Second hand stationary bike will be cheap and u can go intense of low intensity steady state while watching videos or a movie.

I have found that a landmine setup is a great tool
Various presses, squats and rows. Minimal cost to buy on online
In lieu of a spotter you can do a superset of lumberjack squats and then take a plate off, spin around and do hack squats

:+1:
I can keep adding a thing or two every other month once I’m able to put together a basic set-up

Belt and straps are cheaper things, which I did not really consider them as expenses.
And yes, 1 barbell with 2 smaller bars (ez/something else) is a good idea.
I have a pull up bar, the one which screws into a fan hook.
I don’t really have aa specific"style" of training, so to say. But I workout hard (as much as I can). So…

Thank you for the input :muscle:

Pulleys and cable can make some pretty cheap crossovers, push downs/ lat pull equip w some creativity

150 lb Rogue sandbag; start with 50 lbs sand and work up.

A Rogue sandbag seems unbreakable.

What kind of training are you planning on doing? What are your goals? Because that’s a pretty big deciding factor in what equipment you need.

Even an ez bar is overkill if youve had no issues with your wrists or can just use DBs for the arm work. I’m into powerlifting at the moment so most of my funds would be directed to decent racks/bench and powerlifting standard bars

Fun!
I’ve never used them or seen them in real life, but Chris Duffin is selling a line of barbells called “Kabuki” I’ve seen in YouTube videos. You can actually shift different points of the bar around, so it might be a bang for your buck play in a home gym if any of the configurations are things you like

Basic and heavy.

What I would do for that kind of training, as and when I start my home gym again is a basic 531 style set up:
In this order of importance:

Rack/stand
Barbell
Plates - basic, cheap
Something to deadlift off (platform, cheap flooring, whatever)
Something to do pull ups off (o-rings if theres anywhere to hang them)
Olympic db handles
Prowler or sled
Assault bike or the like
Kettlebell(s)
Trap Bar
GHR

Yes
Something like that
But I guess a power rack and an adjustable bench are the more expensive things out of these all. Should get those and get other things side by side. God knows how long this pandemic will last

My personal thoughts are that this is a big investment if you’re looking at it for a few months training. I wouldn’t personally invest that kind of money just to get through Corona, itnwould need to be a long term plan.

So would you say clean and press, snatches and some light work with dbs are good enough inthe interregnum?

My favorite equipment is rogue monolift. Really saves your shoulders if you don’t have a spotter on the bench press.

Also Ironmaster quick-lock adjustable dumbbells are a solid choice. They are bomb proof and you can throw them around just like standard dumbbells.

And bodyweight work, hill sprints etc.

I’m just speaking for myself here, but I wouldn’t want to drop £1k or so on a gym set up for a few weeks training. I don’t know your financial situation though.

Bro 1k for you is like 90k by exchange rate here, so no! It is much more sensible to not spend so much, I hope and pray it passes in a few weeks though :crossed_fingers:
And 90k is maybe 2 months’ worth of income!!

A good and safe setup for bodybuilding or power lifting is going to cost much more than $1k USD. $1k would be shopping for months or longer on Craigslist and still having a lot of missing equipment.

Calisthenics is a great way to build/maintain muscle in a pinch, and also helps with a lot of stabilization. Check out calisthenics movement on YouTube. You’ll know you have the right channel if it’s two ripped German dudes.

The only equipment you need for that is some gymnastic rings mounted securely to the ceiling. And maybe some other homemade blocks.

Exactly. You’ll be back to where you were in 4-6 weeks, just keep protein high and do pushups / pull-ups / single leg work to maintain muscle mass.
