Hi T-men,
This is by no means meant to be a pissing contest. I’ve been working out in my home gym for the past 12 years and have built a fairly decent physique in this time. I have also added to my home facility during this time. As I post what I’ve got below, I’m very curious as to who’s got what for those who prefer to work out at home!
Power Tower - Pullup, leg raise, dip, sissy squat station - perfect for bodyweight only days
Plate loaded lat machine with low row
Wavemaster Freestanding Heavy Bag
Heavy Duty Incline/Decline Bench with Preacher Curl and Leg Attachment
Multi-level Abdominal Slant Board
Big Stability Ball
Mini Trampoline
500 LBs of Various Plates
Homemade “Wooden Man” Dummy that fits over my Wavemaster
Homemade Leg Stretching Machine
Amortized over the years, I believe my investment has more than paid itself back, especially with respect to my health and fitness. So what do you home gym afficianados have out there???
Peace!
Okay, lemme lay it down: Full Powerblock set (up to 125 lbs. each) Musclemag flat/incline bench (an f’n steal @ $85, olympic straight bar, EZ curl bar, EZ curl variation bar w/ close-grip, well over 300 lbs. in plates, “Chuck”, the Kettlebell, “Coney Island Bill”, the big purple swiss ball, a dip belt for weighted dips, doorway chin-up bar (I dunno how I ever lived without this thing), four plate mates for added weight (work great on the Powerblocks), and, of course, the 3-cd stereo w/ my collection of training cds. I beleive that’s it. And you should see the size of the room I fit all this stuff into. Hey, work with what you got, works for me. Lata.

Okay, here it goes: I also have the Powerblock
weights up to 125 lbs., a Body-Solid power cage
(holds up to 1000 lbs), a HOIST 310 Home Gym w/
leg press attachment, 7 ft barbell, 330 lbs in
Ivanko rubber encased weights, 4 ft E-Z curl bar, tricep bar, dip station, and coming is a
Body Solid commercial seated calf machine. The
power cage of course has a pull up bar.WHEW !!!
All that in a 12 x 10 room! But it works…
Flat/incline/decline bench, Flat bench, power rack with chin bar, plate lat machine with seated row and various bars (rope, tricep, standard lat, curl, triangle, D), 2 x olympic bars, various dumbbells, EZ bar, preacher bench, leg extension attachment for bench, dip belt, platemates, olympic weights.
Think that’s about it - the only thing I’d really love to add is a Power Block!
Yes. I have a home gym. When I started lifting, well it was before the machines and gym chains. The local “Y” had a weight room in the basement that was poorly equipped. So I took welding in high school and started making my own stuff. My gym changes size based on how much room I have. But the basics stay the same. Power Rack w pull-down/rowing attachment/pull-up bar, Angled Dip Bars, Seated Calf Machine, Lifting Platform, my custom designed wooden man (stole lots of ideas from Jimmy Lee), Set of rings, dumbbells and weights (a few bars), some custom benches, etc.
Best of Luck
I work in the specialty fitness industry, I get some pretty awesome deals at times. Here is what I currently have. Powerblocks with stand up to 85#(I think the 125# kit rattles too much!), BodyMaster (commercial) seated calf, Paramount selectorized stack(commercial)horizontal leg curl machine, “hang ups” inversion bed (best investment ever for anyone with back troubles!), Northern Lights slant smith machine/half cage with 250# selectorized lat attachment (custom made), almost every conceivable cable attachment, Northern Lights (commercial) flat/incline dumbbell bench, Northern Lights leg press/hack squat, Pacemaster treadmill, 80# heavy bag, speed bag, Parabody (commercial) ab machine, Nautilus adjustable angle hyper-extension, 2 7’ olympic power bars, oly ez curl bar, 5’ oly bar, HD weight tree, 2x100, 8x45, 8x35, 8x25, 6x10, 4x5, 2x2.5 oly plates. Rubber “thunder rugs” under most of it. That is what I can fit in my basement. I also have in storage a cable cross-over with dual 200# stacks, another full squat cage, a flat dumbbell bench. I have spent almost 10 years building my collection, my wife is going to kill me if I bring home any more stuff! BTW, if anyone ever wants to know about what is quality equipment, I would be glad to give my .02
Northernlights: power rack w/ chinning bar, incline/decline/flat bench w/preacher and leg attch (put an eyebolt in the end of the bar of the leg curl piece which I attach to the low pulley of the lat machine-works great), hack squat/leg press sled, seated calf raise, lat pull down w/low pulley & weight stack.
Pile o’ oly plates, oly bar and oly curl bar (nothing special), rack with 3-50 lb DBs (hex), various grip training implements, contoured ab bench w/pulley for weights.
Additions before the year is out? Ivanko oly bar and bumpers, building a platform for the oly moves, Ironmind Husky handle DB bars, rubber flooring (got some cheap outdoor carpet down atm), more misc grip/strength training doohickeys ala highland/WSM style stuff.
Hardest part of the iron game for me is not overtraining. I love the stuff so much, if I’m not careful I’ll spend all day lifting. Best thing I’ve ever done for my training (besides finding T-mag) was cut back the volume. Home gyms make it easy to over-indulge!
Hi T-Men,
You guys all have some very impressive shyte! The key thing, however, is that where there is a will, there is a way…regardless of space, time and budgetary limitations!
My motivation for starting this thread was 1) curiosity as to what else people are doing, with their time, budgetary, and space limitations and 2) to give some perspective to people who may be considering one of those “total” or “bow” type gyms that may cost a lot more due to heavy marketing spend, yet are actually less effective.
I really appreciate all the tips I’ve received and the dedication of the people here who continue to try and “keep it real.” On that note, I have my ab etching appointment to go to soon. But please still buy my new ab book…
peace

As well I have some dumbells (going up by 10's)..though I was considering picking up some of those powerblock things. Are they any good? Worth it or too much of a hassle? I need some more in-between dumbells, but the powerblocks would definitely save room in my small unfinished basement. I'm pressed right up against the washer/dryer! Walking Lunges, what are those?! :o
