Home Gym Equipment Question

I’m looking to get a new piece of equipment for my home gym. My question is which would be more beneficial, a trap bar or a push/pull sled?

I bought the Rogue Echo Dog Sled about 15 months ago now, and it was one of the best equipment purchases I’ve ever made—absolutely transformative.

I can’t speak to the trap bar, as I don’t have one yet, but I’ve used the sled 2x-4x a week for hard conditioning under the many different 5/3/1 templates I’ve been running since June 2021.

I’ve never had the opportunity to train with either but I lack the hard conditioning most of the time because I don’t have the equipment. I like the thought of a sled but also wonder how much I’ll use it etc. the trap bar is great but also not necessary since I have a barbell but I also know Jim has been big into most people using the trap bar over a barbell if possible

Depends really. A Trap Bar can be used for all the same things a Barbell can be used for, plus weighted carries.

A Sled is the only thing that can do what it does.

Unless you have a specific need for a trap bar, a sled would likely give you more variety. Both are great choices though.

+1 on this - bought this exact sled, no complaints.

Sled is improvised easily tyre etc or cheap. Get a trap bar or better still both.

When I have access to both, I’m significantly more likely to use a sled. When I have a barbell and a trap bar, I still choose a barbell 99 times out of 100.

1 million percent sled

Like most of the responders, I think a push/pull sled is the better choice.

Here’s why:

I have a Prowler 2 with a Spud harness and a tow strap. It can be pushed from a variety of angles, from both ends, while walking, sprinting, and plates can be added. With the harness and strap, it can be dragged forwards, backwards, and sideways. It improves endurance, strength, speed, power, and can even be used to put more emphasis on certain weak points of your lower body if you’re into that sort of thing. You can use it for your upper body as well.

It’s one of the few pieces of equipment that answers the infamous question, “If you only had access to X amount of equipment, which would you choose?” I believe @T3hPwnisher has stated something similar to this.

I also have a hex bar that I used for a while, but haven’t touched it this year.
