Holy Sh!t Rashad Evans

He just drove his shin deep into Sean Salmon’s face and put him on the mat for good. Rashad has really improved as a fighter and has stepped up his game in a big way by ending his fights early instead of going to the cards. I was actually scared he had killed Salmon, I mean he just went lights out. He was still out cold when they cut to commercials! Both Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine are proving to be some very talented fighters. The light-heavyweight division just got a little more interesting.

I hope Salmon is OK. He was completely out even as the show ended. Rashad looked very worried.

He definitely did and that shows what grade of fighter and competitor he is. I hope they update us on Salmon’s condition because not only did Rashad knock him cold with one shot, he landed two hard ones on the ground afterwards as well.

Yknow I wouldve liked to have seen them address his condition prior to ending the show, instead of acting like the guy isn’t still motionless after a few minutes. Sherdog has nothing on his conditon yet obviously. Hope the dude is ok.

That looked like a career ending KO for Salmon.

See Couture school those “joes” including the military close combat instructor?

How could Rashad not improve? When we were first introduced to him he was a wrestler who held people down…I’d hope he would work his stand up, but it isn’t on Chuck Liddell’s level.

I’m sure we remember when Koschek knocked out Goulet a couple fights back and then all I heard about was his greatly improved standup. Then in his very next fight he laid all over Joslin because he was getting tooled on his feet. If you start with basically no standup game, of course you’re going to improve if you want to continue fighting.

I guess I should be happy that it didn’t mirror the Herring-O’Brien fight, but I’m not going to throwing accolades at Rashad’s standup just yet, I have a feeling that faced with a better striker he’ll just revert back to what got him there and just hold people down for the decision…as a sidenote, Rashad should have lost that decision the judges gifted him with against Hoger.

Forgot to mention, Marquardt by snoozefest decision over Lister…didn’t see that coming.

What fight card is this? Also Keith Jardine is from my hometown (Albuquerque, NM) as is Diego Sanchez, both are amazing fighters.

I agree completely. The knockout kick was wicked, but it was really the only good shot he landed all night. That said, I like Rashad as a fighter but don’t think he is ready for the likes of Liddell or Jackson yet.

I agree. That kick was more part of the strategy for beating Salmon then something that he is really good at and would use regularly. Especially against a striker. It was wrestker against wrestler. Neither is great standing up, and the guy who improves more in his standup would have a definite advantage in that match-up.

Sean Salmon Says:

January 26th, 2007 at 2:49 am

Hey eveyone, I just got back to the hotel and I?m fine. A little banged up and embaressed, but otherwise ok.
Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot to me. Maybe now, you can pray that I get a kick defense. hahaha
I will do a blog for UFC Junkie sometime tomorrow covering the whole day of the fight up until right now. I am sorry I?m not getting it done tonight, I am just too tired.
Thank you again for all your support, you guys make dealing with a loss a lot easier.
Sean

It’s good to hear that Salmon is alright, I didn’t catch the whole thing (I need to upgrade my cable package) but I saw the KO and it looked brutal.

Here’s a link for all my fellow paupers:

That was hilarious. Best part of the night. You just need to show that to people who claim that they can “just go crazy” and be in the UFC.

A helluva knockout. Rasheed was on him with those two fast follow up shots like a Lion on a crippled gazelle. Wow.

How did you see this, it wasn’t aired on Spike TV here?

I’d still like to see it, they may not be exciting but both are quality fighters.

As for Rashad, nice assessment slimjim. Not saying he is anywhere near ready for the likes of Liddel or Rampage, but I’m happy to see he is working on rounding out his skills. Maybe someday if he has the opportunity to progress enough (without being thrown to the lions and discarded) he may become a top contender.

But I’m not like those guys, I’d…blah blah blah… and he wouldn’t see it coming
(some arguments you’ll never win)

That said, I’d still love to have an opportunity like those guys against Couture (no strikes and he knows I’m buying the beer after if I’m not in the hospital).

I’m just talking out of my ass and assuming since they didn’t show it on the televised portion it was a crappy fight…the UFC can’t build Nate up for a title shot if they don’t show his fights. I heard(rumor, I’m not sure) that one of the judges scored it 30-25 for Nate though…it must have been a pretty bad whooping to garner that kind of score.

If it was me in there, I would’ve just sprinted in circles around the octagon like a chicken shit…call me a pussy, but if I was trying to win the competition I would’ve done my best to stay away from Randy.

Good strategy. I’d also try crying, it may through him off.

No kidding. We were cracking up about that last night. Ummm, guys, the object is to NOT get submitted.

I would be running around like Curly of the three stooges.
