Hi everybody,
I’ve been lifting seriously for about 4 years, but still am a beginner in many regards, and I’ve encountered a problem that doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
The backstory: About 2.5 years ago, my lifting partner got me to start training Westside style, specifically with an emphasis on low, wide-stance box squats. I quickly noticed tremendous gains in my olympic-style squats; however, I believe I “overdid” it with regard to the box squats, as my squatting quickly deteriorated a few months later.
Ever since then, I feel the brunt of the squat around my groin area and up into my psoas and iliacus. These muscles quickly get tired and I am unable to get out of the hole after only a few reps; meanwhile, the muscles that should be doing the work (quads, hamstrings, glutes) don’t really feel anything.
Solving the problem: I had visited an ART therapist for about a year, and he believed it to be built-up scar tissue in that region. He treated the problem with electronic stimulation and accupuncture, while I focused on strengthening my hip flexors and such. However, I still have the same problem, and I can’t make any progress on my squats.
If anyone could provide some insight into my problem, or has experienced something similar and would share, it would be greatly appreciated. I can provide any other information you need. Thanks in advance.
