I was wondering if anyone could list some Hip Dominant vs Quad Dominant Leg Exercises for me… im not sure about the distinction btwn exercises
Hip hamstring dominant:
Deadlifts
wide stance low bar squats
zercher squats
Good mornings
leg presses (if the feet are placed high on the pushing platform)
any leaping movement
Quad dominant:
Front squats
leg presses (if the feet are placed low on the pushing platform)
Olympic style high bar squats
hack squats
leg extensions (of course)
can be either depending on form (how far out you place the leading foot):
lunges
split squats
In general, whether an exercise is hip or quad dominant seems to depend on the the horizontal distance between your feet and your hips. The shorter the distance, the more quadriceps are used to move the weight. The greater the distance, the more the glutes and hams are used to move it.
Hope that makes sense, Corrections welcomed.
Squat and Short Stride Lunge variations: Quad dominant
Deadlift and Long Stride Lunge variations: Hip dominant
