High UREA levels

Hopefully one you docs or chemists can help me here. My last three blood tests have revealed all normal results, except for urea levels, which are alot higher than the average 3-8. In three separate tests in about three months, i’ve had levels of 12,13,12. My doc was contemplating sending me to a kidney specialist, but in the end felt there was no need, since i look and feel fine. Can anyone shed some light on the matter. Should i refrain from any AAS, or could my kidneys, as my doc suggested, just operate at that level.

Are we talking about your “BUN” i.e. blood urea nitrogen? If so, those numbers are in the normal range. Usually BUN and creatinine are the two numbers performed in common blood tests related to renal function. BUN is more related to a state of hydration, and creatinine…a mediocre indicator of renal function (mediocre because if it is high your kidneys are probably having problems, but this may not show up as high until a lot of deterioration in renal function). Exactly what tests did you have done, and were they outside the normal values for that lab test?

I recently had blood work done as well and my urea nitrogen level and creatinine level were both one point elevated. I thought perhaps it could be caused by the breakdown of muscular protein during intense training and a higher protein diet. I was not using creatine at the time but had stopped a 10 gram/day cycle 3-4 weeks prior.
