That’s it…I’m moving to Canada.
Protein is what is known as a “gateway” supplement. Eventually it will lead to steroid usage. At that point suicide becomes a serious concern.
This doesnt surprise me. This kid who im training is playing baseball at the local high school. He cam to the weight room the other day and told me that at the preseason meeting they had the trainer in who took a poll of who was taking protein and creatine supplements. Apparently the trainer immedietaly told them they should stop because everyone knows the creatine and protein “at gnc contains steroids”… I was fucking floored. Then just the other day the kid comes in and tells me how his biology teacher told them all that there are studies being done on creatine, and that these studies are showing that it can cause your liver to fail…HOLY SHIT. I tried to straighten him out( hes only 16) and he was actually scared cuz ive been having him take protein. I couldnt fuckin believe it.
Thinking long and hard about it, I have come to the conclusion that training hard, getting enough sleep and little or no alcohol are
a) clearly performance enhancing and therefore
b) blatantly unfair.
That would be like someone who is allready intelligent and insists to build on that undeserved advantage buy exposing himself to new ideas…
Somebody has to stop those elitist bastards…

Yep…guess that means the Flintstones are out…
I live in a small house that is busting at the seams, drive a 15 year old truck, live without all the neat electronic gismos like ipods and everything else so I can send my kids to private school. It sucks seeing how my tax dollars are spent in the public schools knowing I’m also paying what amounts to another house payment for my kids to go to a school where I have a say in what happens while they are at school. But there’s no way I’d leave that up to the drones running the public school system.
Banning protein and protein bars!!! This coming from an administrator that is probably supplementing with Prozac in the morning, more Prozac after lunch, and Viagra when he gets home at night!!! This is obviously a call out to all T-Nation posters to start running for office, or an administrative job, or any position of power, in order to spread the word, that it`s OK to be strong and healthy and intelligent all at the same time.
I sense a vast and juicy conspiracy afoot. It may take me a couple of days, but I think I can work out a theory that will incorporate numerous government agencies, private corporations and even one or two fraternal organizations.
On a more serious note, banning protein shakes and bars and the like is stupid and it sucks.
I can possibly see the Schools concern about excessive protein intake for pubescent teens, and how this could relate to minor kidney problems. Though I doubt this is their train of thought. Even so, would this not be an issue for the parents?
What gets me is; even if this is their true concern, I can crap in a bowl slap on a couple of scoops ice-cream, some chocolate syrup, and sprinkles, call it a Shit Split, and have it for lunch. I would not get kicked out of school, though I might have a hard time getting a date.
So I suppose the schools idea of a post workout shake would be diet soda, 10 low fat Oreos, and government cheese all blended nicely together
This attitude towards supplements is not just an american thing.
I was explaining to my housemate last night that I am cutting to get my weight down for boxing, while I drank my protein shake - he says well you don’t want to be “taking” that because your muscles will grow and you won’t lose any weight.
He also said I should take creatine because “it will make my muscles leaner”.
This is a supposedly intelligent man who is at least a little bit into fitness.
I told him that the protein shake was not some magic thing that would make my muscles huge - it is just food, and I am using it to up my protein intake while on a low calorie diet to help preserve muscle mass.
He stared at me blankly.
In one ear and out the other.
I usually don’t even bother explaining this stuff, but I have to live with the prick so I though I would at least try.

I just kick 'em in the nuts.
I don’t see what the uproar is about. Can’t you see the justification for banning protein while allowing sodas, chips, and candy bars in our schools? The answer is as obvious as a 10-foot gorilla at the drive-in movies.
Our government is faced with an ever-increasing older population. The medical needs of this population are putting a severe strain on the economy and the healthcare system as a whole. By allowing our children to grow up fat and unhealthy, the government is in effect forcing all the maladies that older people face to occur at a younger age.
In this way, the general population will face their major medical issues at a younger age; an age where they are still young enough to be insured by their workplace. In this manner, the drug companies can still reap their incredible profits by selling their pills, the insurance companies can still demand their obscene premiums, and the population will die before they hit Medicare/Medicaid.
This should free up some tax dollars to allow the US Government to invade some other oil producing nation, thus preventing $7.00 per gallon fuel prices and saving the world as we know it. So, shut your yap - we are trying to save the world here - one protein bar at a time.
Protein bars and shakes aren’t dangerous. Chicken is dangerous! If kids start eating chicken, we’ll soon see widespread spontaneous renal failure in classrooms across the country. Just look at the facts:
Chicken breast: ~35g Protein
Metabolic Drive Bar: 20g Protein
And once they get hooked on chicken, D-Bol is right around the corner. Please protect your kids by having them eat Doritos and Snickers bars for lunch. Thank you.
Harrison Bergeron
If it gives you an advantage, it is unfair, and instead of helping everyone catch up, they slow the winners down.
I can’t describe how frustrated this makes me. I even want to go back in and say how wrong it is.

It’s a knee-jerk reaction to steriods and GH in baseball (and everywhere else).
People agree that steroid are bad (they can be… but so can lots of things) and then they look at what other supplements this steroid crowd uses and they want to ban all of that stuff too (and schools can pretty much ban whatever they like).
Why don’t you just remind this person that people need protein and atheletes need more than the average person. If they don’t get enough in their diet there’s nothing wrong with a protein shake. People use vitamin supplements, right? They school - I hope - doesn’t ban those.
What’s the differnce between student bringing a few protein bars or a few cans of Tuna?

Can’s of Tuna are allowed. Go figure.
This thread makes me wanna go downstairs and mix up a nice tasty protien shake…
How about if they put the protein powder in a glass pipe and smoke it? Would that be OK?

Now I understand it. If you eat too much protein your balls will fall off. Then you will be just like your teachers and administrators, nutless/gutless wonders.
Here’s an easy solution. Buy 2 candy bars that are about the same size as a Metabolic Drive bar. Toss the candy bars and put the Metabolic Drive bars in the candy bar wrappers. Instant compliance.
