I know its very common for bodybuilding, but lately ive been wondering what the application of high rep sets (50-300) might be for athletes.
I was reading an article i think by Scott Abel, who happens to be into bodybuilding, but he was talking about an olympic speed skater, that would do sets of 300 on squats and leg press.
Just wondering what you guys think would be a good use for high rep sets, if at all?
At the end of a strength workout?
Also, is this similar to westsides timed sets?
It will depend greatly on the needs of each individual athlete.
Some sports demand strength endurance in specific muscle groups.
a speed skater might need that but then again it could be argued that he could just focus on power/force production in the weight room and spend more time skating for endurance.
arguments for strength endurance stuff in the weight room can go either way.
in my opinion fucking try it. if it works- keep it. if it doesn’t, scrap it.
there are a lot of ‘basic’ truths but there are a lot of individual responses.
kk, im gonna look more into what westside does with timed sets.
Im not an athlete really, so i dont have to train for a specific event, but maybe these could be beneficial to getting bigger and stronger.
Thanks for you input guys.
It makes more sense to me to work on strength and possibly “general” endurance in the weight room and rely on SPP for any specific or local endurance you need.
