High Protein Meals On-the-Go

I am sure many T-Nation members here are under similar circumstance as me…busy all day long. I work full-time and go to school full time, so I don’t have much time at home. This being the case I have to take ALL of the food I need for the day with me, and it is becoming tedious. I can’t carry a damn fridge with me.

I am going to go on a new nutrition protocol where I consume high protein, moderate fat and very low carb. Carbs for breakfast and pre-workout only. This would be easy if i worked a normal job, but I am literally gone from 7am till 10:30 at night.

Do any of you guys/girls know of any good high protein, low carb (low as possible) meals that are simple and easy? I do carry with two me meals worth of protein powder and a chicken salad. I just need some ideas that are simple and easy.

I am not an idiot(debatable i guess haha) and I know of a few myself. But I just figured with some of you being in the game so long you might have some real good ideas of good healthy meals that are easy to take on-the-go. If a thread like this is already out there, a link would be sufficient, because I found little on the search engine.

Thanks for any feedback!

I get the multi-packs of jerky from Amazon for about $18. Tuna is also pretty portable when you get tired of chicken salad. Tough guys eat it plain; I eat mine with low-carb crackers. May want to try almonds, too. I try to carry a few BCAA’s around with me. My reasoning being they help mitigate the effects of not being able to eat as often as I’d like or have as much protein as I’d like.

Any chance of you throwing a two pounds or so of ground beef with some salsa and sour cream in tuperware and making it into 2 meals?

The first recipe is a staple of mine, you don’t have to do it all fancy… in an oven throw some salmon filets in with some olive oil and crushed garlic on top. When the fish has cooked, throw on some pesto and a kalmata olive cook for two more minutes and its done. Taste great. Easy.

Shakes are obviously crucial because they are easy to carry and fast to consume. Think about adding the water only when needed (easier to carry).

Variations on your chicken salad are good… lean protein on top of a big serving of fibrous vegetables. Teriyaki salmon filet on a big bowl of (cooked, cold) spinach. Sliced steak on top of a pile of steamed broccoli (cold) dressed with vinagrette, etc. Rotate different seasonings, proteins and vegetables for variety. I don’t mind eating this kind of meal cold, if it has some seasoning/preparation (not just a plain boiled chicken breast).

Not sure exactly what you are doing with carbs, but I have found a variation on this to be hand if it is kept in a flask. Very easy to have a quick meal on the go and you can adjust the ratios to suit your needs. Being a student who is out of the house alot I am interested to hear what other suggestions come up in this thread.

When I was working 50-60 Hours a week I was bringing 2 mini-cooler’s to work everyday.

I don’t think you can get too creative on the packaging without sacrificing taste, and what not.

Some good ideas on here…hopefully some more people chime in, cause I know I am not the only one who has trouble coming up with high protein meals on the go.

I am dropping my carbs because I am on getting really close to 275, and that is getting to an upper limit of size for me at this point in my life.

I have thought about carrying a cooler with a ton of stuff, and I may have to resort to that, but what a pain in the ass. I do use protein shakes for 2-3 meals a day.

I carry 3-4 PBJ’s, a can of tuna, pop tarts, and bannana chips to snack on in between meals. I also keep my old gatorade and creatine containers to carry my protein in them. I buy milk out and about to add to my Metabolic Drive followed up with some olive oil to make an excellent weight gainer shake. I have a great system. I’ll post more later on today.

I cook up stuff on the weekend and package in small containers. Currently, I am working on quinoa with salmon. Add some different spices for variety. (I like Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy) I eat Metabolic Drive Low-Carb with Superfood first thing in the morning. That gets me protein and fruits/veggies to start the day. Always carry a banana or apple as well.

You also need some beef jerky or almonds to snack on in an emergency. That keeps you away from candy bars and crap. Drink water all the time. That will keep you hydrated and you won’t be as hungry. Add some green tea mix and it tastes pretty good. You have to plan ahead. If you don’t, you’ll get hungry and eat fast food or vending machines… Good Luck!

I just use a few Biotest protein bars when I’m on the go.

I have your same problem. Working all the time and needing to eat a ton while doing it. A salad with lots of chicken, cheese and bacos is easy and will keep well. Take the dressing seperate and add it right before you eat it.

If you have access to a microwave at some point your options will grow exponentially.

Taco Bell, KFC, Burger King, McDonalds, Subway…

University cafeteria, food court, job cafeteria, w/e

My point is that you don’t have to carry all your food with you. Carry like 2 meals and buy lunch, dinner or w/e.

I used to live on tuna when I wrestled in college even though I thought it was wretched. I recently tried the albacore in the new packages instead of cans… Its awesome. I can eat it straight from the package with just a spoon. 20-30 grams of protein depending on which size, minimal fat, and honestly tastes good.

He said he’s looking for LOW CARB meals that he can bring along (not make a special trip to purchase).

Also, it always surprises me to see idiots here recommending that other people should eat at McDonalds and Burger King… not out of last-resort desperation, or as an occasional cheat meal, but to plan ahead of time to eat that shit on a daily basis.

T-Nation is still a bodybuilding site, isn’t it? Or did I accidently surf over to FATASS.com?

This is true, I am looking for low carb, high protein meals.

I do not have the time, nor do I want to waste my money eating out 1 or 2 times a day, especially fast food. But thanks for the input.

I do enjoy eating healthy. I do not have the problem of having to eat a ton of whatever i can get my hands on to gain muscle.
