Any Healthy Fast Food Choices?

I am currently doing Berardi’s “Precision Nutrition”. A couple times a week I am out of the office most of the afternoon on “house calls” with a couple other guys. I usually bring a shake and a Metabolic Drive Protein bar with me.

Recently we have been out for so long that it comes time for another feeding and I have nothing. These guys like to pop into a Taco Bell, McD’s etc. for a quick bite but I just skip that feeding as I am unsure if there are any appropriate choices at any Fast Food places.

Does anyone know of a link or a posting that has some appropriate fast food choices for someone following Berardi’s P.N.? Thanks for any help.

Micky D’s have salad choices. So do other fast food places.

This might help:

How bad is Chinese food? I’ve had it a couple times in the 6 hour window after a workout.

I always wondered why the salads are so damn expensive at fast food places.

It’s nearly impossible to get a decent amount of protein from them too.

Maybe if they quadrupled the amount of chicken they put in there, it might be worth the $4-$5 for a bowl of salad.

IT’S A BOWL OF SALAD (plus a tiny bit of chicken)! It should be on the dollar menu!

And why no good old fashioned oil and vinegar dressing? Everything they have seems to have sugar added.

I sometimes eat Wendy’s BLT salads (without the croutons). They have chicken, cheese and bacon so you get a decent amount of fat, protein and veggies. I’m not sure if they work for the diet in question though.

Grilled chicken sandwich from Chik Fila, wheat bun, no mayo, with lettuce pickles and tomatoes. I can normally eat three in one sitting with a glass of water. If my memory is correct it has 38 grams of protein per sandwich and the fat content is fairly low. The thing I like is the chicken is an actual chicken breast and not some preformed chicken mystery puree. It’s also not dry and hard to stomach.

Bullpup

Check out the $1 menu at Wendy’s. You can get a small chili and side salad for $2. Pretty hard to beat!

Spinach Chicken Salad from Wendy’s is fairly good. The Black and Bleu salad from Quizno’s is great…fiesta style chicken soft tacos from t-bell are pretty ok too. I am on the road for weeks at a time and these seem to be fairly steady choices for me…just check the sites for nutrition content!

Thanks, Chris. the link you provided helped alot. Appreciate it.

Subway is okay once and a while. But when you look at the list of ingredients on their site it almost seems like they are using mystery meet for the sandwiches.

The spinach chicken salad at wendy’s is good but he dressing’s first ingrediant is high fructose corn syrup. Use sparingly if at all.

Subway uses real ingredients, for the most part. Every other ingredients list I’ve seen (Arby’s, McD, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy’s) was basically chemicals reconstituted to resemble food.

That’s the most important to me, the ingredients, rather than macronutrients, etc. You can find all such information on their websites, and decide for yourself.

i would either go with a chik-fil-a, or a submarina(the meat is incredibly fresh, cut right in front of u, and u can get wheat bread). other than that, everything is crap.

I always kinda figured that missing a feeding was far worse than eating crap during a feeding opportunity. I’m on PN as well, and I usually save my 10% meals for times just like those. I rarely ever go without eating something. I think the body switches on the catabolic hormones if there isn’t any food to use. For me, catabolism is far worse than a one-time dose of too much saturated fat. That’s just me, though. Hope that helps.

What about quiznos?

Chipotle burrito?? Or if you are afraid of the flour tortilla you can always get a burrito bowl.

Your best bet for high protein is Subway…the turkey is real meat and low fat. Get whole grain bread for the high fiber to cut back on total carbs. All the fast food salads have little to no protein and the dressings may be low fat, but LOADED with added sugars. Try to pack your lunch and keep away from the fast food joints.

Not to sound rude… but this is from poor planning on your part. Having your food bag with you at all time is a must. If your job requires you to be out and about… then there is no excuse NOT to have food with you at all times. Even more so when there is a ricsk you will miss a meal.

If there is time to stop at taco bell or McDonalds for the other people who could care less about nutrition… Then there is time for you to stop at a gas station and heat up your broc and chicken in the microwave.

Additionally there would always be a Grocery Store close by. So pop in there, buy what you need and heat it up or whatever there.

Absolutley zero excuse to eat poorly.
