I helped this high school kid who was doing fucking up his back. He was doing deadlifts, and rounding his back really bad. I gave him a compliment first (at least he was doing deadlifts) and then said to try to keep your back straight.

I quit work a couple years ago to go back to school, so I’m a little bit older than my classmates. Sometimes I swear the guy from America’s Most Wanted is going to jump out and bust me for being around some of my tiny classmates. There was one girl in particular that I swear looked like she was 13 except with decent tits for such a tiny girl…she was 22, but still. I was always uncomfortable talking to her in public, and she was super friendly, so I was uncomfortable quite often.
really? when i approach girls to talk to them, they either swoon and wanna touch my arms, or freak out and tell me not to kill them and rape their dead body.
you try being over 230lbs and talking to tiny college girls in the gym while u’re sweating profusely, beet red, and wearing a shirt that says ‘alone and insane’ on it.[/quote]
Stop yanking your dick while you talk to them. It goes a long way towards not creeping the ladies out.
I rarely offer advice because I don’t care. However, once I offered a woman who was squatting advice. I prefaced it with, “you look really strong. You know if you just tried (whatever it was I said) you could move even more weight.” I wasn’t blowing smoke either. She seemed strong as crap and would be an absolute bull with a few form changes.
Im probably going to get the “cool story bro” response over this but I have a real good example of why minding your own business is the best policy. And yeah it’s a true story.
So one night I was heading for the free weight platform, and I got the creepiest notion that somebody off to my right was eye balling me. I thought wtf… I wondered if I was imagining things so I glanced that way to check. There on some kind of worthless nautilus like ab machine was this very hot lady. I had never seen her before. She had long blonde hair, a good sized rack, great figure. It took me all of two seconds to notice all that and then I looked at her face… she looked at me like she was sickened or maybe scared to death. her eyes got really big and she gnashed her teeth together like she was on a scary roller coaster ride or something.
lol I wondered wtf her problem was, but just went and got on with my work out. About 45 minutes later I was ready to leave and I saw her talking to some dude and pointing at me. They both watched me walk by. I was too wiped out to care… but it was weird.
So the next time I went to the gym I saw that lady talking to another guy down in the machines section of the gym. I paid them no attention except to notice they were there. I ran out of water and had to go fill up. On my way back to the free weight area I again got the feeling someone was staring. So I looked in that direction and the woman and the guy were watching me again. The guy looked mad. He slammed his hand into his fist making a loud smack. I laughed at him, and finished my workout. But by this time I was starting to get pissed and starting to wonder what that cunt’s problem was. I never did anything. I never said anything. I just glanced, and that was very briefly.
I started to realize that because I never actually did or said anything to her, that she’s probably some kind of a certifiable nut bag. Loopy you know? She made up some kind of weird idea about me, and then told others. And naturally because she was hot they believed her. Or at least acted like they did. Bunch of bullshit.
So anyway, over the next few weeks things got even worse. I tried to avoid looking at her but her crazy bullshit antics were too bizarre to ignore completely. I was doing T - bar rows which put my back to the room. Between sets I happened to glance in the mirror. I could see the crazy lady and some dude with a beard (this one was actually bigger than me) standing there staring at me, like the fucking Geicho money stack or something. They were whispering to each other, and I got so creeped out. Again I wasn’t doing a damn thing. Not a grunt, not a plate dropped, and no chalk… no reason for it what so ever.whatever So when i turned around to get back on the t bar platform the lady turned around and BOLTED. I mean RAN AWAY. lol I raised my hands and shrugged my shoulders at the dude. he just walked out after her. I had the willies so bad… I just can’t understand wtf was going on.
Then for weeks since then whenever I go into one end of the gym she gets up off the equipment she is on or standing besides and goes somewhere else. If I go for water, and she’s in that area she splits for another area. It’s retarded and incredibly childish… and paranoid I guess.
This week I took a break because I am retooling my split, but the last time I saw her was my last day in the gym… Tuesday. I was sitting in the seated military press bench, watching Fox News on the wall mounted tv between sets. I was in the zone but once again I got this creepy notion that somebody close by was eye balling me again. But this time I simply ignored it. I did not EVEN look. But she entered my field of vision anyway when she went over to some guy that was using a flatbench nearby and whispered something to him. He kept looking at me, wierded out or confused or something.
I swear it’s like she spends all of the time she is there worrying about what I am doing! And I don’t even bloody know her!
All that BS… just because of a simple meaningless glance. I am not loud or poorly mannered or ugly or weird or ANYTHING that might have even gotten her attention in the first place.
The moral of the story folks is to mind your own business in the gym. You never know what kind of crazy nonsense your going to step in.

This is the only time I’ve ever given the dreaded “unsolicited advice”. All three times I made sure I was bigger than the kid I talked to, in the hopes that he didn’t think I was just being a douche, but trying to help him.

I was definitely bigger than this kid. He was just a hot shot that knew everything about everything. He doesn’t even come to the gym anymore. I never, ever give advice after that load of bullshit though.
Samdan, have more faith in people; she probably knew she was doing it wrong. If she wants it bad enough, shell get the education she needs. Otherwise, no amount of help from you is going to help her anyways.

Hell yeah, I was a douche when I was a teenager, so I see where the kid is coming from. It always sucks, but sometimes I see the rounded back and just can’t not say sometime.

When I see someone deadlifting, it makes me happy. Then I see a rounded back and my back starts aching from when I used to round my back. It’s weird. What do I do to fix this? Not try to help, turn away and finish my freakin workout.

Finishing my workout is my main priority anyways.

I just don’t understand where those people learn about deadlifts.
To the average douchebag, a deadlift is like a foreign exercise, so when I see them doing it with a rounded back I wonder if they can’t read directions right or something.
I saw this asian dude(probably like 140lbs) doing deadlifts really fast with a rounded back, ouch.
But idgaf, I have my own problems.

It’s weird to me too. Deadlifting does take some practice but it is relatively simple. If you hurt yourself, though, it is your own fault. The internet will practically do everything except the exercise for you. I willing to bet one day the internet will do that too. lol

Up until this point it sounded like the beginning of a Penthouse Letter.
I think that if you do it tactfully it would be okay, like if you go up to her and say something like “hi there, (shake hands maybe?) I’m ______________, I was just watching your form as you were working out. Would you mind if I gave you a few suggestions to help you get more out of your workout?”
Once in a while I will, and usually when they are a younger kid who looks like they are just starting out in the gym. Maybe its condescending, but I appreciated the unsolicited advice I received when I was first getting into it.
