Just trying to keep it simple. It doesn’t bloat everyone, and all of the basics are outdated now (squats, bench, deads). Fine, jar of natural peanut butter a day. 3 shots of olive oil a day. Just get in the extra calories and keep it simple. He’s 15.[/quote]
Yep I’m def with you on the keeping it simple, I don’t know enough to complicate it, lol.
Spent my teenage years like this, trying to keep up and make weight for the rugby team. He’s going to need a minimum of another 10 kilos on him in the next two years if he wants to be really competitive.
Just keep loading the calories in, as long as they’re not junk calories it doesn’t matter whether the healthy fat / complex carb / protein ratio varies a bit day to day.
People have a lot of theories on milk etc not being healthy or useful, but for the vast majority it works. Whole milk, peanut butter, oats, olive oil…all good stuff.
Don’t get worried about him being fat until it slows him down.

Yeah 10kilos plus plus for sure, but his problem as well is height he’s only 5ft 8 and he missed out on the qld country team this year, and while I reckon he was up there with his level of rugby the boys they took thru and then onto the qld team that played nsw were big boys tall and big, and he plays no7 (Ritchie Macaw is his idol of course, crusanders all the way, can you tell we’re from Christchurch, lol) anyway will work on the bulk and the strength and see where it gets him for next yr.
Ha, well he’s got an inch on me then. You’re right though he’s at the age where some of the guys have taken off in size and others haven’t yet. Easy to get hurt or left out for someone bigger. Speed, skill, strength and determination will be what gets him through the next 3 years then until he can catch up height and weight wise. Food is key to all of them so you’re definitely on the right track.
Natural Peanut butter and Jam sandwiches on dark rye bread have always been a favourite of mine - you can pack two or three in your bag and they always taste good, keep you full for ages and heaps of calories. Awesome with a glass of whole milk.
