Fellow T-Men & T-Vixen & T-Children & T-Senior Citizens, I need HELP!!! After all these years of avoidance, and of disguise, and of prayers, my horrors have been realized! I have to fit two years of PE into one year…this year!!! Yes, I know, tragedy prevails, but effective September 6th I have to begin what I call the class of “average bodies, average minds.” For those of you who are yet uninformed of these hideous misfortunes which prevail in our society, the US government incorporated Physical Education (PE) class into our schools system with the notion that “healthy bodies make healthy minds.” But is it really physical EDUCATION? Do they tell you what to do and how to do it and why you should do it? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! They just make you RUN and RUN and RUN more. They hardly educate you, which explains why many school districts are dropping PE classes altogether and why the word SOCIETY is becoming more FAT with each and every passing day!!! Now I beg my fellow T’s from T-Dom (short for Testosterone Kingdom), what should I do to avoid RUNNING? For crying out loud, I was anticipating strength gains this year, and every one of you from Kingdom T know exactly what happens to poor strength gains when aerobics become routine!!! So again, for the love of Testosterone, I plead: How should I avoid the catabolistic (if such a word never existed, it does now!) doings that result from the incomprehensible crime of RUNNING (while, of course, remaining in the class)???
Dont ever, ever join the Army, its THE most catabolic environment you could ever imagine.
(think lots of running, cafeteria food, and minimal sleep)
My advise to you is eat Heavy and eat healthy…after that, eat some more
How about a note from your doctor saying “Please excuse T-Teen from all running activities due to his weakend knee condition. Any stregth training or weight training is acceptable activity for his condition, but all running activities should be stopped.” Its all a big lie, but go to your doctor and tell him your knees hurt painfully when you do any kind of running. He will tell you to stop running, then ask for a note to be excused from running in PE. I did it when I was in high school. Everyone else was running laps and I was in the weight room doing bench presses. Do it, it will work.
Walk or jog you putz.
Doctor’s note. Fake a knee injury and then just don’t lift at school.
to avoid running, SHIN SPLINTS just say you have pain in the front of your shins and they WILL say you have shin splints, don’t dismiss EVERYTHING they say, you may learn more than you think. peace hetyey225
Possibilities:
- Fake an injury.
- Get a note from a doc/trainer/someone with lotsa letters after their name saying that you’re doing bodybuilding training, explaining how running will hinder your progress, and asking if you can do something less catabolic (like shoot hoops or something) during PE time.
- If your coach is sane and reasonable, you can have the discussion in suggestion #2 yourself without having to get it on paper from someone “respectable”.
It’s not like you’re trying to get out of running because you’re lazy, so don’t take no for an answer!
Give me a break! you can’t possibly be serious, simply re-evaluate your calorie needs and eat it. you won’t do anything but improve your health by having a little cardio.
robusto is right on. simply recalculate your energy needs and eat more. cardio is not your enemy. you just have to learn how to work it into your training. it’s only going to make you healthier. kevo
Robusto and Kevo, you are right in that doing a LITTLE aerobics CAN only make you healthier. However, do take note that aerobics will weaken your immune system even in as little as a few months and will make you feel sluggish during winter time. For crying out loud, one of the surest and quickest ways to age quicker is to run marathons. In addition, aerobics are VERY catabolic. Then again, these are minimized by doing a LITTLE aerobics, which CAN only make you healthier. After all, there are many proven benefits which are easily derived from aerobics. Nonetheless, Robusto, SURPRISE!!! I am serious!!! Aerobics do detract from strength training. The greater and more various types of training you perform, the less results you accumulate from each. You see, Robusto, and this may come as a shock for you, but everybody has unique training goals. My goal for next year was to gain as much strength as possible. Aerobics WILL detract from that goal. And no, consuming more and more calories is not the final answer. It is a great start, a wonderful start, but that only covers the metabolic aspect of strength training and surely ignores the nervous system. I also believe that aerobics will lower hormone levels, although I am not sure on this one. Okay, now its time to eat and consume those extra calories! For everyone who replied (and those goes for Robusto and Kevo, as their intentions were good): Thank You Very Much For Your Time and Knowledge!!! I appreciate it!!!
t-teen - always the best intentions t-bro! you are right on that cardio CAN be a strength gain stopper. i get stronger faster while off of cardio, but for me cardio hasn’t turned out to be all that catabolic. i still get stronger while on cardio just not as fast. maybe i am lucky in that way. just develop a strategy that works for you and if that means ditching the cardio then some of the other advice you got sounds like it could work. good luck. kevo
Are you saying that weight training is anabolic? Oh, and you wouldn’t happen to be in the drama club at your school would you?
Jeff, indeed I am saying that weight training is anabolic!!! Out of all decent respect, wise one, weight training leads to muscle growth!!! Yes, amazing for sure, but it does!!! Now, I know, I know, science is advancing at a such an incredibly rapid pace I don’t blame you for being in the dark! Now, you are right, but what your one-sided brain may have not comprehended was that weight training is initially catabolic, but subsequently leads to anabolism!!! The bottomline line is, weight training is very anabolic!!! I’m serious, Jeff!!! Start lifting!!! Quit your position as an E-Man (in case you cannot associate the analogy, E represents Estrogen, in contrast with T, which stands for Testosterone) and jump in for the wild ride!!! Scientifically speaking, Jeff, anabolism is another word for synthesis reactions which occur in cells. Synthesis reactions are important processes that are involved in the growth of body structures and the repair of worn or damaged parts. Catabolism is just the opposite. Now, let me ask YOU Jeff: Do you think weight training is anabolic? Does it lead to tissue growth (in this case, muscle tissue)? Running is catabolic and remains catabolic (think of marathon runners). Weight training involves losing a little muscle (catabolism) to gain more muscle (anabolism) in the end (think of bodybuilders, and not just the ones that compete). Based on your comment, I believe I should make another point: Anabolic steroids do not make weight training anabolic. They make it MORE anabolic. For crying out loud, you don’t see runners using steroids to gain lean tissue (Jeff, another word for muscle). Oh, and Jeff, you wouldn’t happen to empty people’s trash for a living, now would you? (Now you know just how ridiculous you sounded with that final phrase of yours). Jeff, now I feel for you, it is definately not your fault you are so incredibly one-minded, but just because I use sophisticated vocabulary does not imply that I am in drama (which doesn’t imply that I am a loser, which is what I believe you were implying). NO, BUT SERIOUSLY, FOR ONCE, YOU ARE RIGHT!!! I AM IN DRAMA!!! AND YES, OF COURSE THAT MEANS I AM A LOSER!!! I AM ALSO IN THE MARCHING BAND!!! I REALLY AM!!! I WEAR BIG ROUND GLASSES, BUT ONLY TO SUPPLEMENT (WHICH, BEING A DORK AND ALL, I KNOW TO MEAN IN ADDITION TO) MY POSITION AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE SCIENCE CLUB!!! BUT HEY, AT LEAST I WON THE SPELLING BEE LAST YEAR AND THE SECOND RUNNER UP NEXT TO ME WAS A FEMALE!!! SO THAT PROVES EVEN A LOSER CAN GET CLOSE TO A GIRL!!! AND KNOWING ME, I AM THE BIGGEST LOSER IN TOWN!!! Weight training? Anabolic? Muscle growth? Formation of new muscle tissue? Unbelievable!!!
Quit yer bitchin’. It’s not the end of the world. 2 laps around the track ain’t gonna kill you. You are comparing it marathon running? Well, 2 laps ain’t no marathon, it 1/54th of one. And you wait! you might be running a mile once or twice, you’re screwed man… No seriously, either take it like a man, 1/2 a mile won’t hurt you, it’ll probably even help your insulin sensitivity and fat metabolism. Or fake an injury.
Running can also be initially catabolic but can lead to anabolism. Weight training can also be catabolic initially and remain so. It depends on how much you do and what you are eating, which I believe has already been pointed out in previous posts. As for your memebership in the drama club, I was referring to the overacting “tone” of your posts… “my horrors have been realized” etc. etc. Give me a break. This year’s winner for most dramatic portrayal of a misunderstood, teenaged victim of society’s inherent cruelty is… T-teen, in “Forced to Run by The Man”. I never made any reference to being a loser for any of the things you have mentioned doing, that is your own insecurity talking.
Interesting post…overdramatic? probably, but in t-teen’s little world, this horrible and unjust activity called running seems to be a threat to his very existence. Just a thought to ponder - you say that people in the States are getting fatter BECAUSE of PE class?! That’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. It’s proven that people who are more active during their “formative years” are more likely to be active for the rest of their lives (and being active actually means more than simply pressing a barbell through 16 inches of motion). What does this mean? Well , all of those schools that are eliminating PE from their programs are contributing to the epidemic of childhood obesity in your country. Hey, these kids may be REAL strong, but they’ll also be fat and more likely to die from CV disease and be less productive in the long run. And by the way, PE classes can be taught in a way that does increase knowledge about fitness and how to incorporate it into your daily life. Expand your mind a little and incorporate some overall fitness into your program…you may be surprised at how much better you feel. At 17 or 18 years of age, you MUST have other things think about and do besides being on a constant quest for the ideal state of “anabolism”. Get a Life (actually don’t…if you stay out too late and don’t get enough sleep, your T levels may drop…)
Woah there! Talk about misunderstanding! Beannog, I wasn’t bitching…I had a simple question but when I write I like to overdramatize for the sake of entertainment (and yes, Jeff, that means you are right). Despite the fact that you were rude (not that I’m bitching), I have to thank you for making me see the situation in a different light. To tell you the truth, I didn’t really care about running. Just thought that I might as well ask how to avoid it to get that “small” edge in strength. But you are absolutely right! Jeff, you also have a point. I do have to apologize BIG TIME to you. I completely took your message wrong. First, I didn’t associate your first sentence about weight training being catabolic with how much is done and in the context of diet! Again, I apologize, but I am especially sorry about taking your “drama” thing wrongly, as well. I’m not going to prove anything to you, and it wasn’t due to insecurity. It was just a bad misinterpretation. And, yes, you are right that I overdramatized but if you knew me and heard me talk you will see that I do that alot. I’m one of those loud talkers that talk so excitedly and fast I have to be told to repeat myself. Anyway, if you heard me saying what I wrote you would understand. The overdramatization is done in a humor sense. And, Cam, I didn’t say PE is making people more fat. You misunderstood me. What I was saying is that if PE actually taught you what to do and how to do it and how often there would be less fat people in society. Instead, they make you run and most people forget about activity after the class. I mean, most classes don’t even explain why physical activity is healthy. In other words, PE could be improved BIG TIME but without it at all the obesity situation would be MUCH worse. And, true, PE can be taught in a way that does increase knowledge about fitness and how to incorporate it into your daily life but in most cases that is not so. But you are right about me worrying about other facets of fitness than always being in a constant state of anabolism. Now, I know it may sound as if I am kissing all of your asses (and I probably am!) but I don’t apologize when I’m not wrong or tell someone they are right unless I think that. In this case, my reply to Jeff was hasty and prejudgemental and basically STUPID! And no hard feelings on some of the rude remarks, this is just the internet and it was my fault for acting like an idiot so you guys assumed I was one (I mean, you guys never met me so naturally you would assume my integrity based on my remarks)! Okay, I’m off to bed. But seriously, Jeff, let me know if you accept my apology. (Your reply really did get me!!! It showed that I was way off in what I thought you meant…and I was!!!)
Jeff, I don’t know if I said this or not but my response was NOT due to insecurity. Although I am not ashamed of admitting (I even let my friends know) that I could be insecure at times. Actually, a better way to put it would be of having low self-confidence. I mean, I’m a popular guy and I have a good (but loud) personality and people (note that I said people, and not me) consider me good-looking, but I have to work on my self-esteem. Luckily and thankfully, it is improving big time! It was worse a couple of years ago when I was 13 and 14. I don’t know, maybe its just normal (the kind of low confidence that you feel some of the time and especially with girls but also one you can hide big time so that nobody can tell) or has to do with the age (for all I know it might be a common thing with most teenagers…like I said, its very easy to hide). Okay, its late at night (or early in the morning, depending on how you look at it)and I just got a bit too personal. I was planning on just writing the first line. Oh well, I mean, I tell most of my friends, so I obviously couldn’t care less what the internet population thinks! Good night!!!
No problem. Apology accepted.
