Back on topic, I was wondering what exactly is dextrose and what does it do for me as a bodybuilder. Right now I take only take creatine and OP protein shakes pre and post workout. I was searching the forums and people were saying just use creatine and dextrose but all I could find on dextrose was that it was a form of sugar.
Also I was wondering how do people get that pumped looked with veins popping out, even during my cutting season last summer I never had this effect on my arms. I know it’s kind of weird to ask this but I was just curious.
Dextrose is glucose. The simplest form of carb used by the body thus inducing a quick insulin spike. The theory behind using dextrose and creatine together is to spike the insulin to drive the creatine into the muscle.
Insulin is also an extremely anabolic substance so when spiked correctly at the right times it helps in driving all nutrients to the cells. Don’t go overboard though, do a bunch of research on insulin and how to use it to your advantage.

what should i search for in the forums to find out more about spiking my insulin levels?
Also if dextrose is a simple carb then why not just put some sugar in my prot shake instead?
Thanks[/quote]
Sugar or sucrose is different than dextrose. Dextrose is glucose. Sugar is half glucose and half fructose. Fructose is bad. It the most fattening and unhealthiest source of calories. Your body can only metabolize a certain amount (50g in 24 hrs) into glucose before it runs out of the enzyme that converts it. After that its converted to triglycerides.
Dextrose is absorbed into your muscles faster. It has a higher GI count. Sugar has a lower GI count since it takes some time to convert the fructose in the liver.
The best thing to do is invest in some Surge Recovery post workout drink. It has maltodextrin for the insulin spike plus protein and carbs. Plus it’s pretty tasty stuff
