Help! I Am Confused!

Hi! i am new to this forum. i have been lifting for nearly a year now. i need to lose weight and know how to avoid overtraining and also how much cardio i should do every day?

Hi and welcome. What has your past experience with lifting been? What kind of routine/program do you follow?

What do you consider overtraining to be? Usually this doesn’t occur unless you aren’t getting enough sleep, aren’t eating enough, and are pushing yourself way too hard. You’ll know you are overtraining when you have no motivation to work out, can’t make progress from week to week and just feel exhausted and run down.

How much cardio you do will depend on your goals and the other training you are doing.

Why not outline your current training, your diet, and your goals. That will help us give you some more specific advice.

Thanks a lot for your reply. i workout with weights 5 times a week - legs & abs, chest &back & abs, shoulders & arms & abs, day off, chest& shoulders & arms& abs, back & legs & abs, day off and start again. that is 3 days on , 1 day off, 2 days on & 1 day off. Sets ranging from 3 to 6 per exercise and 2 to 4 per muscle group. i use free weights mostly, as i don’t like machines & try to stick to multi-joint exercises.

i do cardio for about 30-60 mins daily or on most days. i awake up very often durning the night because i am mother to a toddler.

i try to follow a healthy diet, no junk or sweets but i don’t take any supplements, i hate them.

What is your opinion please? thanks once again

wow- thats a lot, especially with a toddler.

Why don’t you start logging your workouts, including exercise, reps and sets, tell us if you work with a trainer or partner, share your goals?

Best of luck, you will learn a lot here!

hi shelly,

thanks for your reply. i workout on my own usually but my husband is my training partner whenever he is around. i have a training log and a food diary too but they are so difficult to keep up with at times.

My main goal is to look good like the fitness/figure competitors all year round, but i know nothing about contest dieting. Any help please? thanks

If you really want to know about contest dieting you ought to post in the Muscle Sorority. No one here in this forum diets like that.

It’s also pretty impossible to look like they do year round. Even the top figure competitors have on and off seasons of muscle gaining/cutting. It just isn’t healthy and restricts your gains too much if you are always on a caloric deficit.

I also wouldn’t advise that you diet seriously if you aren’t getting enough sleep at night. Work on getting the little one to stay in bed all night before you add more stress to your life in the form of a restricted diet.

First off you are doing a tremendous job getting to the gym and actually doing weight training and cardio both! I would ask why you would shy away from supps though. I’m not saying you have to drink a protein shake you dislike or anything but I think at a minimum it would do your body good to include some Omega 3’s and possibly some carnitine to help you burn fat. I’m guessing you were maybe speaking of stimulants that may have made you jittery etc. I would suggest surfing the Supps & Nutr forum and get an idea of whether or not any deficiencies exist. Good luck.

As you can see i don’t have much time to surf the web. I prefer to workout first and then if i have time i use the internet. i am looking for info regarding supps.

i would like to buy books about: bodybuilding and muscle building for women
periodization training
muscle nutrition.

Can anyone suggest a few? i would like to buy books with the latest infomation on the abovementioned topics. It’s easier for me to read a book rather than using the internet due to family matters (mums will understand me). Thanks a lot

Hi! it’s me again! I think i did not make myself clear in my previous post. I don’t have a personal trainer (pt) eventhough i spoke to various pt. They all gave me conflicting advises regarding training and nutrition. So i would like to find out more for myself. I think that reading good books would be a great idea but with so many books around…

I would love to hear from women who have read and used info from books and suggest a couple of names please. I need info to set up a new nutrition plan and a new training plan for muscle gain, definition and fat loss.

thanks

I want I want I want I want I want
I don’t like supplements
I now want advice on supplements
…from women only

I happen to work out every day and hit the net - it’s not at all that difficult. I guess I’m the odd one that prefers to research via a bodybuilding website rather than solely rely on reading a bunch of books which apparently would be much faster if I understand you correctly.
I am Mr Mom also btw - so I do in fact understand
Enjoy your world of you
I will exit your thread now
Peace,
Mousse

I enjoyed the book Bodysculpting bible for women by james villepigue and hugo rivera.
