Hedlesky's Ok, I've Mentally Collapsed Log

Here is my plan for the next couple months. Next meet is USAPL RAW Nationals in July.

Accumulation Block:

Every week:

500 tri extensions

500 face pulls

500 rev. hypers

500 hamstring curls

500 ab somethings

*all done outside normal training sessions.

20 weeks out- Nothing but light conditioning and BW stuff

19 Weeks Out:

  • Dynamic SQ/DL- No bands or chains. With suit bottoms to a parallel box=15 sets of 2 with 55% for squats, 15 singles at 55% for Deads. Assistance work-Then some high rep bb work with RDLs, SLDLs, Dimel Deads, or some variant for at least 50 total reps. Reverse Hypers with at least 400lbs for at least 30 reps. HEAVY ab work (suitcas deads, fs holds, uneven farmers walk, etc.). Heavy grip work.

-ME Sq/DL- Squat variation for a 5rm. Assistance work- Reverse Hypers with 400+ lbs for at least 30 reps. Direct hamstring work for 50 total reps. Shrugs for a shit load of reps. Moderate ab work. Either sprints or sled pushes.

-DE Bench- No bands or chains. 10 sets of 3 with 50%. Assistance work- Some high rep press variation (DB or BB). Heavy BB Rows (6 to 10 rm). Light shoulder work. Light ab work

-ME Bench- Bench variation for a 5rm. Assistance work- BB or DB Extensions for at least 50 reps. Direct tricep work x 50 reps, light lat work x 50 reps, curls, upper back work (usually done in some kind of circuit or strict set/rest timing… tryin’ ta get swole, brah). Light ab work

Extra Workouts: Nothing too crazy yet.

18 weeks out: All assistance work will stay the same for the remainder of the block

-DE Sq/DL- 60%. Same sets and reps

-ME Sq/DL- Deadlift variation for 3 to 5rm

-DE Bench- 55%. Same sets and reps

-ME Bench- Different bench variation.

Extra Workouts: same

17 weeks out:

-DE Sq/DL- 65%- 8-10 sets, 3-5 sets until speed slows.

-ME Sq/DL- Squat variation or GM variation for 5rm

-DE Bench- 60%. 8 sets

ME Bench- Different Bench variation.

Extra Workouts: same

Weeks 14-16: Repeat same block. Since the weight classes go 231, 265, and 265+, my diet will kick in on week 15. I am still trying to figure out if I want to go 231 or 265. It just depends on how miserable I want to be. I am thinking 265 because that would be easy weight to lose and my strength won’t suffer. I’ve gotten down as low as 229 before but I didn’t like having visable veins in my abs and just being that skinny in general is a nightmare. Anyway, extra workouts for weeks 15 and 14:

3 days of 30 minutes light sled dragging (a little over a mile)

2 days HIIT. Either on a spin bike, rower, track, with a barbell: 15 minutes of 15s on/45s off.

After all this, I may either go into a deload week with 50% on everything or just go into a 2 week Strength Speed Block. It depends on how beat to shit I feel.

Recovery work:

Everyday- Foam roll/ lax ball problem areas upon waking, static stretch at night.

Contrast showers, ice baths, SOAK bath crystals, Voodoo bands, and mobility extra workouts.

I am eager to try some of that new Ben Gay shit you keep in the freezer… that sounds like the greatest invention ever.

I will put my diet up and plans for my intensification block as it gets a little closer.

If I don’t squat over 700, deadlift 820, and bench something in the mid 400s, then I am going to blow my brains out on the platform.

Sunday-3/17/13- AM- S=9.5(awesome), M/P=8

Tri Ext.-10lbsx200

FacePulls-10lbsx200

Standng abs- 40lbsx200

Hamstring curls-20lbsx100

now that you have an exact date and plan, will you start taking antibiotics about 3 weeks out to make sure you don’t get the usual flu of death? i just don’t think you could survive another

When it comes to foam rolling/lax balling, how much is too much (as in times per day)?

Whatever they used to cure that 2 year old of AIDS, I am going to start taking that a month out.

Good question. There is no definitive answer. I would say a good ending point would be when you say to yourself “I’ve done too much of this today.” haha.

If you are working on a problem area, I would suggest 3 times a day, at least 2 minutes per problem area, everyday, for at least 2 weeks.

Tuesday- 3/19/13- ME Bench- S=7.5, M/P=8

Hum Set

Sh. PNF

Pect/int rot test/retest

Close Grip Fat Bar Floor Press- up to 355x5. Smoked every rep. 5lb PR and a PR for keeping my ass on the floor.

Palahniuk Press- 135x5x15

Face Pulls- Strong- 3x20

Pull-ups- Strong x 20, 10, arm cramp

Stretched x 10 mins.

Creatine… not even once. Trying to stay natty, bro.

Just kidding. When this block of training is over, I am going to take 20 grams a second until the competition.[/quote]

Injecting or snorting?

My rumble roller came yesterday. My friend pretty much died trying to use it, but I wept tears of joy after my horrible tissue was cured.

Have you ever took a barbell to the knee while front squatting?

I somehow did.

The fuck?

Did you clean it and whack yourself on the way up?

Huhuhuh he said whack yourself, Beavis.

Question about upcoming meets.

I’ve been feeling like shit and have lost strength, but still want to compete. Do you think it would be a waste to compete in a meet knowing you won’t do well, or is it still gonna be worth it? I want to go watch even if I don’t lift.

2 upcoming meets in PA April 7 and May 11. Bench and deadlift only.

My best lifts were 170 and 375, but recently bench has been a struggle even warming up and 350-355 have been kind of hitchy.

I used to be a weightlifter like you…

When I read it like this I imagine he is squatting and someone throws a barbell at his knee.
Probably wrong, but way cooler in my mind.

Haha he actually dropped it on his knee. Strong front rack is strong.

A good coaching cue for the front squat is to hold on to the bar the entire time youre lifting it.

Personally, I am of the school of thought of:

Fuck it. Just go do the meet. Hopefully my schedule calms down a little soon and I can plan on doing a warm-up meet a few weeks before nationals. Just go and hit 90% of your lifts just for the meet experience. I would honest to God do a meet every weekend if I could afford it.

Thursday- 3/21/13- ME Deads- S=7, M/P=meh.

Leg swings
Hypers
Leg Swings

2 inch block pulls- up to 675 for 3. Went for a new PR with 745 but got into a horrible position immediately after I picked it up. I could have grinded it out but I just shut it down. Now that my back is somewhat under control, I need to get in some more technique work and need to do some heavier core stuff.

Hyper- Long strap- 410x30

Suitcase Deads- 135x3, 225x2x3, 315x1<~~ these sucked. I have lost a ton of strength. My best ever on these is well over 400lbs but 315 felt like a ton.

Had to cut it short to go to PT. Which consisted of:

15mins foam rolling
10mins ultra sound
10mins Graston
10mins trigger point/deep tissue
20mins of 10s on/10s off stim

Lol. Happened when I had to bail. Decided to try and zercher reverse curl it to the floor instead of just dumping it.
