Hedlesky's How to Get Fat and Strong

Wednesday-12-7-11-

Worked the hell out of my hips and shoulders

Squat-205 (30%) x3x1
Bench-135 (30%) x3x1
DL- 225 (30%) x3x1
Speed Bent Rows-225x6x3

Stretched. Might do some prehab stuff later on.

I want to do more direct triceps extension work. Problem is elbows kill. I don’t even use a bar. Even with neutral grip DBs I can’t really go over 40lbs without them hurting pretty badly. So I am currently just doing a pissload of reps with lighter weights. I could do more weight or use a bar, but it would just hurt really bad? Should I push the pain and get over it (I can if thats what is best). Not sure if I want to deal with the constant pain though. I may try it. Its an olecranon bursitis issue so I know I am not really “damaging” anything serious (like if i thought i would tear a triceps muscle).

Thoughts?

Hey man, it was cool meeting you at the meet. Best of luck in your future training!

Can’t wait to hear how you did at the meet man

Saturday-12-10-11- MD State Championships

Weighed in at a lean 280lbs. I felt awesome being completely hydrated and not caring about my weight at all. The meet was split up into 2 sessions, I was at the first one to help coach one of my clients. His weigh ins were at 630 in the morning which made for a very long day but he ended up going 290, 190, 320 at 150lbs. This was his first meet and he hit a PR on squat and DL. He also did all of this without even wearing a belt and at 23 years old. He’s got a lot of potential!

Again, I weighed in at 12 and @ 280lbs on the dot. Warm-up squats felt great. Last one was 515 and I almost jumped off the ground with it. Took 600 and 640 like they were both empty bars. 680 almost made it but I fell too far forward and my knees valgused hard out of the hole.

Benches felt great as well. Last warm-up was fast with 330. 400 opener was VERY easy, 425 felt harder than it should have but I got it. Then barely missed 430 at the lockout. Back got loose and I didnt feel like I was pushing very hard for some reason. 425 is a raw PR for me.

Back was locking up after the bench. Warm-ups still felt pretty good though. Last one was with 615 and it was pretty fast. Matt Nolan and I ran out of weights to warm-up with. What an awesome problem to have. My 700 opener could have been a power clean. 750 came up with no problem. Went for 777 on my third but, again, was too far forward.

Ended up 6 for 9, raw PRs in bench, DL, and total (1815, which puts me 21st all time for 308 on plwatch), broke the state SHW squat record by 90lbs, broke the DL record by 190lbs, broke the state raw total by over 200lbs, and , somehow, won best lifter by coefficient at 280lbs! Not too bad. I am just happy my hamstring is still atached. I was definitely capable of getting all of my third attempts, just had some technique issues that need to be addressed.

Now that I know I can handle it, I will go back to training with a reckless abandon and really pushing the weights and the strain. I was thinking about taking the whole week off because I have never been this sore before in my whole entire life. But then I did this instead:

Monday-12-12-11- DE Lower

Sled- 90lbs x 100 foot trips-
3 forward, 3 backward, 6 lateral

SSB High Box Squat- I thought I loaded 315lbs… but I am a fucking moron and forgot my SSB is 75lbs. So, I actually used 345lbs for:
25 sets of 2 in 17:08

Fuck deloading.

Absolutely SMASHING records man, that’s fucking awesome.

Nice work man.

Oh, and LOL @ your deload. You’re insane.

Thanks man. I think I did it just to see what I could take. The first 10 sets felt like my muscles were pumping cement mix. I actually felt pretty good by the end, minus the gagging for air and the horrific full body cramps that kept seizing me up.

Do you have another meet planned out? Seems like being your own guinea pig w/ your training ideas is paying off. Kinda, sorta.

I’ve got two in mind. I am definitely doing the Arnold GNC Pro Deadlift in March and maybe a multi ply bench meet in VA in Feb. just to see what I can do in my new shirt.
