Hedlesky's How to Get Fat and Strong

Thursday-11-3-11-ME Lower

All kinds of hammy/hip mob-ing

Kneeling Jumps-
3x3
+20lbs (Dbs) x 3
+60 x 1
+100 x 1

SSB Free Squats… god, I hate these. I will explain why in just a second…
75lbsx5
165x5
255x3
345x1
435x1
added a belt
525x1
575x1<~~~~ absolute smoke show.
615x0<~~~~ here is why I hate using the SSB without a box- I have very long arms and legs with a very short torso. With this body type, I can work up with heavy weights on a box with no problem because I can sit back pretty far and hard, clearing my elbows over my thighs. When not using a box and the weight gets heavy enough to start rounding my upper back, my elbows smash into my legs when I hit depth and this pulls me forward as all hell making the concentric part of the lift somewhere between a good morning and a cat shitting itself to death. Fuck squatting without a box… anyway, 575 shot up. I get about a 100lb difference out of the SSB and a regular bar. If I stay healthy, I should get a ridiculous raw squat at the meet.

Pissed off no belt box squats-Low to Soft Foam- SSB
345x3x10 with about 30s of rest… hit a PR on blood pressure on the last set

Deficit Deads- 4 inches-
worked up to a fairly easy 550x6… 50lbs PR and no hammy pain.

Back Ext.- About 50 total with a bunch of different weights- 30lb med ball for 10, Dbled light band around my neck for 10, 45lb plate behind my head for 10, some other crap for more sets of 10.

Still pissed about that 615.

Good post dude, really enjoyed it! Caffiene ftw!!

Training looks like its being going tasty, good to see! Well except for teh SSB sesh but hey good to see ur hammy is still hanging on their! loL! But yeah dude just wanted to get your advice (or experience if so) on Inzer gear? Im moving to single ply now (IPF federation) after a 100% Raw meet in the beggining of December and wanted to know if you ever used Inzer before or anything like that as your first suits when getting into geared lifting. Just be interested to hear your experiences or whatever!

Awesome post in your blog.

I really really like the inzer single ply stuff. For the love of God, just don’t get any titan gear. The grooves are all screwed up. It seems to me they tried to make all that stuff easier to use than other gear but royally messed up. Anyway, The MAX DL is the best deadlift suit I have ever used. I pull conventional and get set-up pretty fast. That suit allows me to move around a little bit and I get a ton of spring off the floor.

I’ve done some sumo pulling in the Fusion and that is awesome too. I have also used the Metal IPF deadlifter. I think I got it a size to small because everytime I got down to the bar I felt like I was going to shit my spine out of my eye sockets… wow. That’s quite a visual. That one had some good pop off the floor as well but I have very very thick legs and had some trouble getting it on and getting my sizing right.

The inzer single ply squat suit, the Hardcore, is good for medium stance squatting. Wider gets a little tricky. The Metal IPF squatter, Viking maybe? was much more comfortable for me because I squat pretty wide. I havent used it in competition yet just because my hardcore is so much more broken in (i have had it for about 2 years and it still gives a ton of support.

I think it is a tie between the RageX and the King Presser for the best bench shirt. The rageX is easier to use, for sure, but the King lets you handle a shit load more weight once you get the groove.

So as far as advice, go one of the Inzer deadlift suits depending on your pulling style. The Hardcore if you squat medium or close, the Viking if you squat wide. It’s a toss up for the bench shirt. Either one you get, take your time working it in. Don’t try to get a weight to touch your chest the first couple of workouts. That’s a good way to make the shirt explode.

Did that help? Kinda got off on a ramble a couple of times. haha.

Thanks for reading, buddy. I just hope I don’t see a story on the news in the next couple of days about increases in either:

-Caffeine induced death

and/or

-Healthy people found dead in a full squat in a bathroom stall at a Bojangles.

Friday-AM-11-4-11

Hammy Curls-lightx150
Int. Rot. Crap-averagex75 each leg
TKE-average-standing on an airex padx50 each leg

Backward Sled Drags- 270lbs x 6 trips of 60 feet

Quads are swole! Bunch of crap to do today then speed benching later on.

11-4-11 PM- DE Upper

Bunch of shoulder mobs

Bench- Pins set 1 inch above my chest- Dbled light bands-
135x5x3
185x1
225x1
250x1

225x30

Tons of rotator work

Hungry.

Thanks for the reply dude! I like to hear from the more experienced lifters on their experiences and opinions, always rad to hear! I really wanted to get metal gear, but Inzer seems to the most widely used here in SA and the only guys I could find that sell gear here all use Inzer, so I can only get the Trx, Fusion and Rage-X.

Just wanted to know if you had experience with any of them and stuff. I heard the Rage-X was a lot better for a “newb” when trying to learn a shirt as the groove of it doesn’t throw u off too much as from the metal range. But yeah dude thanks for the knowledge bomb drop!

I just liked the Metal shirts because they seemed more suited for someone with longer arms… which I most definitely am! The RageX is awesome though.

Sunday-11-6-11- DE Lower

Feel awful. Getting sick I think.

Did some speed stuff.

Going back to bed.

Do you change anything training wise when your sick but still physically able to do everything? At least once a year I get a lame cold or something, my gym sessions are usually fine but I feel like it takes too long to get over it and occasionally it turns into something worse.

I just focus on getting the main work done as efficiently as possible. Like yesterday, I just did the bare minimum sets/reps/weight on the speed work for squats and deads. Was it optimal? Probably not but, it was all I could do and not make myself feel shittier than I already did! ha.

Hey man, trolling through the logs and saw you’re doing a meet on Dec 10th. Is it the USAPL Maryland States? If so, I’ll be there, look forward to watching you wreck shit.

I’m competing for my first time, in the 242s raw.

Just in case you didn’t see this, congrats on making PLWatch man!

Yes that is the very same one! There are going to be a ton of people there who have never competed before. USAPL MD meets are hit or miss as far as how they are run… hopefully we won’t be doing deadlifts at 11:30 at night… yes this has happened before. haha. Good luck with this last month of training, let me know if I can help you out with anything.

I saw. My “ups” are getting famous.

Monday-AM-11-7-11

Fat Bar DLs- Dbl Overhand- up to 350 for 5 PR!!
Hammy curls- 3x50
Back Ext.-4x25
Band Shrugs-Dbled Greenx4x25

Did these back to back in a circuit as I went up on the pulls. That set w/350 felt easy in my hands but my back and hamstring were fried

PM-
Prowler SPRINTS- 90lbsx100 feetx 6 trips<~~~ lots of rest, wanted to go as fast as possible
Prowler drags- 90lbsx100 feet x 10 trips<~~~~ very explosive walking

For how shitty I felt yesterday, I sure feel pretty awesome today.

This is sick.

When are you making the move to multiply? I’m the only single ply guy left on our team, it’s not going to be long before I take the plunge…
