Heavy Lifting = Declining Vision?

I was just wondering if there is any correlation between the heavy lifting we do and the effect on declining vision. I put my reading glasses on today and I could use them for long distance vision.

Kinda made me start to wonder… I know a lot of us experience blurred vision when we make a hard rep or set, and maybe possibly it could have some longer term effects.

About five years ago a study came out that concluded that lifting decreased your risk of glaucoma. THEN about five months ago a study came out that said lifting increases your risk of glaucoma. WTF? Who knows.

I can’t imagine that lifting maximal weight is too healthy for you.

But what the hell, we do it anyways.

You’re just beating the meat too much.

Prescriptions for near-sightedness and far-sightedness are different. Your reading glasses shouldn’t have made any improvements in seeing things in the distance.

I had LASIK surgery over a year ago and wound up with vision slightly better than 20/20. After working out at a higher instensity and using free weights, if anything, my vision improved even more.

I’m not sure if this link will come up, but if it doesn’t I’ll just post what it says.

It comes up with a loggin screen, so I guess we’d have to be members to see that link.

It is my understanding that heavy excersion increases the pressure inside the eye momentarily. So heavy lifting is probably not the best thing for the eyes. But then again I have never read or even heard of studies that it would actually harm your eyes, assuming you don’t have any condition where increased pressure is bad. Staring at a computer monitor or a TV is probably more damaging.

And at the end of the day we need to accept that we won’t live forever. I don’t think it matters whether you go to your grave as the pinnacle of health or as a worn-out and scarred lifter. As long as you did what you loved.

what’s the title of this thread?? I just hit a PR and it’s a little blurry…

I’m an idiot, so don’t listen to anything I say, but I would think the most you could do would be to make sure your breathing is spot on.

Like on heavy deadlifts, I’d assume people who hold heir breathe throughout the entire rep all the way up to the top, then exhale, have much more internal pressure than someone who exhales halfway through the rep to get you past the sticking point.

Push comes to shove, if your eye pops out during a deadlift, just don’t drop the bar on it.

When I train for a meet and start squating or benching in equipment I have a tendency to burst blood vessels in my right eye. The first time my eye turned half bloody I almost ran to the ER it freaked me out so badly. So I eventually went to see an eye doc and he told me that pressure like that will NOT cause any long term damage. It just looks crazy.

It also makes your dick look smaller.

i lost my vision after a work out about a week ago. Heavy deadlifts for high reps will do that i guess. It was sweet.
