Heavy Bag Workouts

I’m looking for a specific workout routine to use with my punching bag.

Right now I’m not even with a boxing/kickboxing gym, but will probably be joining one soon. In the meantime I have a heavy bag and am wondering if someone could give me a good workout program.

What I’m doing now is jump roping for 30 seconds, then going into my orthodox stance and throwing two left jabs, then a right. Two left jabs, right, and I’m doing that 30 times, then switching to a left/right/left/right combo to the body 20 times. Then 15 kicks with my left leg and 15 kicks with my rights leg.

60 second break, then start back with the jump rope and then do the whole thing southpaw (except for my kicks, they’re ugly enough as it is without doing it “backwards”).

I do that about twice per side (ortho and southpaw) then jump rope a few more minutes.

Right now I’m just pulling this stuff out of my ass. I boxed alot in high school, but always for fun, never with any kind of organization, so I have ZERO real training, though like I said, I’m planning on starting in the next 1-2 months. Until then however, if any of you have some specific workouts or combinations I could be doing I’d appreciate it.

If you have no real training I would suggest first getting a boxing coach to show you the basics. Bad habbits are easy to pick up and are a bitch to get rid of once learned.

I used to use a heavy bag for some of my training to help lose some weight

I just put the timer on for 10 minutes and hit the thing I would make up my own combos and such things

Im sure there are better ways of training but it worked for me

I second this. I would just work on your conditioning until you actually start training with a coach. They’ll be able to help your technique a lot more than you can yourself.

Ha, I was worried that was going to be the answer. I kinda figured that which is why I was asking if there was anything ya’ll COULD tell me.

Thanks.
