Hardcore Essentials2

Drink a lot of water, and continue to get some sleep. It looks like a 600 pound squat is there no problem.

Thanks Crippler, I’ve been drinking about a gallon of water a day and I’m trying to catch up on some sleep. This afternoon I felt decent after a nap and coffee so I lifted.

255 x 1(pause)
296 x 1(pause)

165 x 3
225 x 1(backed off a couple of pounds from last big OHP for better form)

Standing Crunches:

Bench is slowly moving up nicely and the squats are feeling good. I wanted to do deads today but ran out of time because I had to go a teacher assessment meeting for my kid in VPK. I’m a proud papa for many reasons and one of them is my girl is doing exceedingly well in all her subjects.

I deviated from the norm today and lifted this morning before work.

Trap Bar Deadlifts:
140 x 10
230 x 5
320 x 3
410 x 1
500 lbs x 3

My plan was to lift this evening again however I had a killer day at work and it was hotter than I expected. My entire body aches from work and doing deads this morning so I am taking tonight off.
On another note my wife just has been hired for a great job and has to travel two weeks before the meet I was planning to be in on November 15. This means I will be in charge of kids by myself for a work week and my training will be hit and miss. As a result I will not lift on November 15 but I spoke with the President of Raw United Powerlifting and he told me he would put on a meet on December 13th so I and other lifters could have an end of the year total. I think Spero is one of the nicest people I’ve met in powerlifting and he’s very generous. Spero just -out of the blue- offered to put on a meet and that made my day.

Wow. That is pretty nice, considering how much work meets can be. Good news for you!

Good news about the meet and your training looks great. One tip which may or may not make a difference on your benches try to make sure your increase in weight is greater than your previous increase. You’ve been doing something like first warm up set, increase 50, second increase 40, third increase 30, fourth increase 50. 135, 185, 225, 255, 305 instead I would go either 135, 185, 225, 265, 305 or 135, 185, 225, 255, 280, 305.

I read something years ago about this and implemented it and my max immediately jumped about 10 pounds with no other changes being made. I’ve been following it ever since. At this point it is probably more mental than physical but I always follow it. Worth a try at least.

Thanks kpsnap. Dave I will give that a try today. I would love to have a 10 pound increase for my bench just by altering my ramp-up.

Good news about your meet.

squats looks great.
training as well

Thanks brotardscience, I’m hoping thinks come together nicely.
Today’s lifting went well.

The squat was great depth, an easy competition green light. My bench felt awesome and this is the first time I’ve been this high on close grips in a while not to mention it’s harder because of the Fat Gripz X so I am really pleased.

Earlier this evening I had a great lifting.

Wanted to do more but ran out of time due to a dinner party with friends visiting from out of town.

Very nice. You’ll have another month to destroy those squats.

Yeah Crippler that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking, more time to work on bigger lifts.

Had a superb night of lifting.

Bench is still coming up and getting better and my squat felt great.

I hit a wall of kryptonite today because I was up until 2 AM and then awoke about 7:45 AM this morning. The lack of sleep last night has wiped me out especially after a big lifting afternoon. Hopefully tonight I will get to bed early and have a great day for work and lifting tomorrow because my body and mind are refusing to lift today.

Nice bench work. You do have a narrow grip- I’m assuming that is where you feel the most comfortable?

@Dave-Yeah, I feel much more comfortable with a fairly narrow grip for regular benching. As you can see in the video my hand are wrapped around the Fat Gripz Extremes but that’s where they are too without the Fat Gripz. For close grip benches I move my hands in toward the center a couple or few inches. I think the narrow benching helps my shoulder stay more healthy than they would be if I went wider grip. When I have done wide benching with my hands out toward the outer ring my shoulders hurt and so for a long time I haven’t done that for anything heavy.

Makes sense. Avoiding anything that causes shoulder pain is a good plan in my book.

Had an okay day for lifting but accumulated stress has me a little fatigued.

Squats:(raw)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
542 x 1(deep-belt)

Fat Gripz Extremes CG Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1(pause)
265 x 1(pause)
300 x 3/4 press/fail

Standing Crunches:
80 lbs x 20

Squat felt great but my heavy bench was just slightly off. I will try the 300 CG bench again tomorrow. I did the regular grip 300 a couple days ago and I feel the CG is in me so…

Bounced back for a great lifting session today.

Squats:(raw)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
545 x 1

Fat Gripz Extremes CG Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1(pause)
265 x 1(pause)
300 x 1

Standing Crunches:
80 lbs x 20

Didn’t have the CG bench pause today but that’s coming around the corner. Squats felt tremendous.

I’ve been really burned out from a ton of work the last couple of days plus the overall body stress from heavy lifting so today I had to do a really fast session because I went out with my girls for trick or treating.

Squats:(raw)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
546 x 1(deep-belt)

Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1(pause)
265 x 1(pause)
305 x 1

About 35 minutes of lifting and I was out. Rest times were short between sets and changing lifts. I was surprised everything moved well and now, after trick or treating, I am fried. I hope I can lift tomorrow but it’s looking unlikely because it’s my wife and my 6th anniversary and I have to watch the kids all day while she is at work. We’re going to see improv comedy and out to dinner so it’s all good. I’m really happy to still be progressing in my lifts on a regular basis.

Happy anniversary GV. Nice lifting.
