Had plans to hit a big dead tonight but “The plans of mice and men oft go astray,” it wasn’t happening because after I did 475 lbs for one my body shouted an emphatic “NO!” I did hit a nice 295 pause bench which I haven’t done in forever, I think years so that was a highlight. I think the Fat Gripz Extremes are the factor helping me to train my bench higher. Tonight was the end of 3 weeks of hitting it hard so now the next week will be a back off phase and then I will enter the final 3 weeks of meet training before the November 15th Raw United Invitational.
I’ve had several pulling sessions like that lately GV at least you have a real excuse with all of the squatting you have been doing lately. Looks like 300+ on the bench is in the bag for the meet, good luck in your last couple weeks of meet prep.
Crippler-I think Fat Gripz are excellent tools in developing stronger arms and grip as well as hitting your chest and shoulders in a new way. I have the blue Fat Gripz and the orange Fat Griz Extremes. I love both pairs and now use them alternately. I haven’t used them for deads or curls but I imagine the benefit will be great for those exercises as well. The blue Fat Gripz make a regular bar like a thick yoke bar and the orange Fat Gripz Extremes transform the bar into a small log. I find the Fat Gripz also provide an excellent non-slip surface.
Matty-If my finances work out correctly I will compete on Novermber 15th at the Raw United Invitational in Melbourne, Florida. Also, I need to coordinate going to the meet with my wife’s work and making sure I have supervision for my kids so there are several challenges ahead of me.
Today I basically felt like I’d been hit by a truck due to only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before and then just barely 6 hours last night. Lack of sleep hits me hard. Finally had enough coffee and kicked myself in the ass for a light and fast lifting.

The squat felt solid and I would like to plan on at least another 35 lbs for the meet just a month away. The bench felt explosive and powerful however I wasn’t sure how I was going to perform so I didn’t pause the 305 lbs however it’s there and probably more. I finally had a decent night’s sleep last night however I’m coming down with my little one’s cold and I felt sluggish as well as droopy coming in for this lifting. Got my psyche up and drank my coffee so with that and the Dolphin’s pulling out a good win today I am pleased with my performance. The next 3 weeks of training will be intense and concentrated headed toward November 15th and the meet in Melbourne.
So, I became extremely ill after lifting Sunday afternoon. Yesterday I was dizzy while working, tired and disoriented for the rest of the day and night, and consequently I slept a good deal after returning from work. My congestion and run-down feeling had been very frustrating so I took last night off from lifting. This morning there still remains some funk in my system but I am much better so lifting will resume this afternoon.
