“Ya’ll have great camaraderie between powerlifters and federations up there.”

GV, I guess we’re lucky to not have distractions like beaches, oceans, and pro sports teams. We talked at the meet about PL and BB. Plers are willing to share and help others. BBers don’t seem to want to give up any secrets. The Big Iron crew is only 2 hours west of us (they are in the Omaha, NE area).

@hawkcapt- It’s a hard life here in the sunshine state. The only secrets BBs have is their injection sites which really is no secret.

Tonight’s lifting went great even though for most of the day I felt like I was trying to move through a swamp of quicksand. I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night due to my 16 month old. My muscles and bones felt like I was stuck in a bowl of taffy whenever I was mobile.

Squats:
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
485 x 1(deep-belt-raw)

Bench Press:

185 x 5
225 x 1(pause)
250 x 1(pause)

Deadlifts from pin just below knee:
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
485 x 1

Standing Crunches:
70 lbs x 20

Everything move nicely but I want to get the pause dialed in with the heavy bench.

Getting the paused dialed in on heavy benching is definitely important for me prior to any meet.

You got to love the way powerlifters are willing to help each other. It makes it much different from any other sport.

Crippler, it is great to see the way powerlifters encourage and support other powerlifters. Yeah Dave working the pauses in daily routines leaves no doubt where your are.

Haven’t posted in a couple days because I went to the beach last Sunday for hours of Sun and play with my daughters resulting in me being fried and exhausted. We were all sun burned.

Monday(Anniversary of my Uterine Escape):7/28/14

Safety Bar Squats:
155 x 10
245 x 5

CG Bench:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1(Pause)
250 x 1(Pause)

Standing Crunches:
70 lbs x 20

Total lift time-20 minutes. Totally exhausted from previous day at beach and hot-hot work. Speedy sets also killed me. Had to use Safety Squat Bar because my shoulders and back were to burned to use a regular bar for squats.

155 x 10
245 x 6
335 x 3
425 x 1
445 x 1

185 x 5
225 x 1(pause)
250 x 1(pause)

Standing Crunches:
70 lbs x 20

Extra long and hot day at work and then right to lifting once I got home-about 101 degrees outside and in my garage. I thought the 445 SSBar squat was going to kill me but I really ground into it and made a nice deep squat. My upper body was toast from work but I managed to still get my pause in. I will be looking for a big lifting day a couple days from now when I am not working in the sun all day.

good work in here

physical jobs- and training is a tough combo

Thanks brotardscience. I haven’t been able to train the last two days because I have been extremely drained physically at the end of each work day to the point of dizziness and muscle cramping. Today I was able to manage my fluids and electrolytes fairly well even though the temperatures were 100 degree Fahrenheit and better for a good portion of my work. I am hoping after a few hours of rest, eating, and further rehydration I will have the umph to lift this evening.

No way I could do physical work all day then lift especially in the heat. Up here (New Hampshire) 85 degrees feels hot. I can’t imagine days of 100+.

NHLFTR-Yeah, it’s a challenge with the heat winning a good deal of the time. For instance, yesterday I meant to lift but I was so exhausted that by the time I could lift at 8 PM there wasn’t an ounce of energy left in my bones so today I may be able to get back on track with some luck.

I know how you feel. I work outside part of the day, and it has been over 100 for the past few weeks. Although I don’t do any physical labor, I do work 12 hour days. All I want to do when I get home is sleep.

Crippler-The heat is a killer. Been watching Naked and Afraid though and besides the naked part I think I live and work in a tropical environment so I could do well on that survival show. Would love to show off my survival skill and be kind of Bear Grillis(love his shows).
Wasn’t able to lift yesterday due to family stuff but today the excuses end. Lifting went well.

Felt refreshed yet strong and mobile for a fast 50 minute lifting session. Still working on that pause with the heavier CG Bench.

Kind of beat up from yesterday’s lifting but today went okay.

Decided to back off the bench on high set and do back off sets. I may start doing dumbell bench presses in the morning before work to spur more strength.

Strong squats as always.

Thanks Crippler.
I was very beat up today from yesterday’s lifting but after a short nap following work I did okay.

Squats:(Raw/Deep)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 3

CG Standing OHP:
135 x 6
155 x 3

185 x 5

CG SlingShot Bench:
225 x 3
275 x 1
300 x 1

Standing Crunches:
70 lbs x 20

All moved well this evening. First time handling 300 on any benching in a while felt good.

Nice work GV. How much do you think you get out of the Slingshot going close grip? I always feel like I have to go a bit wider than normal with the SS to get the maximum stretch effect and maximum additional weight out of it.

Thanks Dave. I got something out of SlingShot with the close grip, maybe a 8% increase and nice for a slight overload.

Heavy squats on back to back days is no joke

Thanks Matty, I’m trying to condition myself to make these weights not heavy(at least in my mind) to kind of super-fortify my core and then move my capacity to a much higher level. This is going to take a long time and I need to be consistent.

Tonight I was pressed for time to lift because the wifey and I had to drop off the little ones at the grandparents while we got to enjoy a rare dinner night out at Longhorn’s. A good meal to follow a good lifting.

Squats:
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
495 lbs x 1(belt/raw/deep)(knew I was deep enough when my hamstrings rested on my calves)

Dead-stop pin bench presses beginning at my chest:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1
250 x 1
205 x 2 sets x 3 reps

Standing Crunches:
70 lbs x 20

My legs had been aching from the lifting and work this week but somehow I squatted well.
