Thanks Dave. Last night was hell and my household is going through virus torture. This morning I’m feeling a little better and I hope this continues throughout today. My real hope is that I can help my wife and daughter recover from this bug. The healthier I am now the more I can help them to be healthy.
I’m signed up for this online fitness challenge where you have to raw squat a max for 10 reps. The contest submissions are allowed until December 17th. My virus has afflicted me at the exact moment that I need all the endurance strength I can muster. I think at my best I did 515 for 9 a while ago but right now my power is just off. The other night I tried to do 500 for 10 but couldn’t get past 3. Tonight I went for 475 for 10 but I ran out of umph at 5 reps. All reps have to be clearly below parallel and you have to show the weights you’re using clearly. This virus is holding me back but tomorrow I’m going to give 465 lbs x 10 for a run and see if I can grind it out for the lead spot. I’m going against some competition in their 20s and I want to win bad. Tonight went okay considering how I feel, tomorrow I hope for better.

My throat feels like someone took an ice pick and scraped the tonsils raw, sometimes I’m dizzy and thinking is unclear, and much of my body feels like a 10 foot giant has been stomping on it. Other than that I feel great. The fun continues. Oh yeah, I’ve lost about 5 pounds since the flu hit me.

GV, I’m with Up on this one. The only time I won’t train is when I have a virus like you are describing. Just puts too much stress on the immune system which is already working overtime.

I know you are both right, Dave and Up, but I’m broke, have bills and I have the possibility of winning an extra $150 for bills and other expenses. My wife hasn’t worked since last January and my income is not enough for the family and we’re out of savings. I’m trying to win this online contest to booster my income. Last night was a real kick in the ass as I had a minor tear in my semimembranosis(left hamstring) while squatting.
I was on the 10th rep of 10 with 465 lbs and coming out of the hole when the muscle popped. I was videoing the squats for the online contest and my completion of the 10th squat would have won the contest. I’m doing a ton of therapy to see if I can squat tonight but it doesn’t look good. Last night:

This lifting nearly killed me. I’m still slightly sick and coughing up dark green, brown, and yellow yummies but oddly enough I feel much better than a couple days ago. My left hammy is painful and causing me a deal of discomfort so work should be a blast today but hopefully I will be able to gut through the hurt for good and recover to fight strong.

Thanks Crippler and OP. My hamstring is stiff and a bit painful now after work so I have some rolling and other therapy to do before attempting to lift this evening. I think I’ll be able to squat.
Real story, been having a rough week, finals and just life shit but reading your log you always lift no matter what’s going on in your life (kids, sickness, injury) so I’m sure not missing the gym tonight from feelin bad…might even hit a deadlift PR. Just shootin ya a thanks for the motivation and good job for walking the walk.
chobbs-That makes my day, thanks. Well, I did a ton of therapy and though I still had minor discomfort in my hamstring I decided to go for 10 reps with 460 on the squat and see if I could eek out a victory. My warm up weights felt easy but by the second squat with 460 I could feel my left hammy beginning to tremble and shake like a snapped rubber band independent of the rest of my leg. I tried one more rep with 460 and coming out of the hole my hammy began quivering again with a sharp pain beginning to develop. I called it quits right there because I have to work tomorrow and I need my hammy not to snap.
As a result of me stopping the squat reps where I did I have some pain but not as much as last night. So, the therapy begins for hopefully a couple hours of electric pulse with the MARC PRO and I may give in and have a naproxin or two tonight.

I will live to enter another online strength challenge. The only thing I didn’t like about the Raw Fitness Combine challenge is that they ruled the challenge to do a 10 rep max. The contest was sponsored by Juggernaut and I know they know that 10 reps is not strength but more likely endurance strength. Just sayin’! These fools are mostly CrossFit inspired though so I knew what I was getting in to.
Still feeling ill with the flu but I’m a little better. I found out the contest ran until tonight so I gave it another try with the squats but my left hamstring gave out while doing the set of 10 so once again I will have to try for another contest. Next time, hopefully I won’t have the flu and have a slight tear in either of my hamstrings. Tonight was disappointing and my bench was weak, probably I’m just worn out.

I’ve been doing a ton of mobility work on my left hammie and other body sections. At least tonight I walked away from the squat rack without any further injury.
