Tonight the heat died down a little so lifting was pleasant. Was about 80 degrees today, heck of a winter we’re having. I think we have a cold front moving in so the high tomorrow will only be 74, woo-hoo freezing. Lifting began slow but after a few sets the weight was flying.
T-Handle Swings:
110 x 2 x 25
DE Parallel Box Squat (1 min btwn sets):
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 8 sets x 3 reps (Decided to go light tonight)
ME Sumo Deadlifts w/straps:
135 x 5
225 x 3
315 x 3
405 x 1
495 x 1
Conventional Deadlift:
495 x 1
Standing Crunches:
80 lbs x 25
I don’t usually do sumo style deadlifts so this was challenging. I will keep incorporating sumo deads in my lifting to vary the exercise selection and hit the target lift in a different way than my conventional style competition deads.
I just watched your SSB 515 squat, that is awesome work. I have only used the SS Bar 2-3 times and am good for about 1/2 what I normally squat, so according to my math we should load up a grand on the straight bar for you…you might want a spotter…excellent work. Just so I know, did you start off pretty equivalent with your squat or was it a long drawn out tedious grind to get the two somewhat close?
Brian, I would say my regular squat is a bit over 100 pounds or so more than my SSB squat. In my training it alway has seemed to be that way. I haven’t maxed yet on SSB this training cycle but I will most likely tomorrow. I wish my SSB squat was half of my regular squat but maybe I’m looking at it the wrong way and should work harder to make my regular squat double my SSB squat. Thanks for the props, I’m sure you’ll get used to the SSB and rock weights closer to your regular squat in the future.
Didn’t feel very good to begin with yesterday. My lower back and my legs were tired and sore which I attribute to a no stop weekend. Lifting did not go so well but I will regroup and have a much better week next week.
T-Handle Swings:
110 x 2 sets x 25
ME SSB Squats:
155 x 10
245 x 5
335 x 3
435 x 1
525 x 0 (Unrack and Return)
Pause Squat:
275 x 1
I felt such a heaviness in my lower back when I picked up the 525 that I had to return the weight very quickly to the rack. There was no way I could lift the weight on that day. Then, when I did a pause squat in the hole I felt such a burning, almost tearing in my left abductor that I had to get up quickly and return the weight after one rep. My energy was terrible and my body was exhausted so I will take a day off, do lots of rehab and return to lift Wednesday. A little back off is called for.

Hope you don’t mind, but I found this to be funny.
Also, good work on the SSB squats. That bar kicks my ass every time I use it.
Thanks hawkcapt1912 for the compliment and I find it funny and odd that we are having such a mild and warm winter. Looks like the earth is pretty warm again this year for winter, at least in Florida.

Standing Crunches:

I think I rushed the max floor press and missed because of that but I got it up about 3/4 of the way. Felt good doing the OHP and I think I will incorporate them into my upper body days from now on. I didn’t max the OHP but it was all I could do this night after all the other lifting. Good night over all.
Been out for a few days, since Wednesday due to debilitating neck pain and upper back pain. Most likely overdid it on my bench work. Feeling better after a couple of days no lifting and a bunch of mobility work on my entire body. I will resume lifting Monday.
I was planning to do a meet in May but due to a new baby girl that my wife will have this month I may have to reschedule to July. The odds are my head will be wrapped around our precious new addition and managing life. There is a meet here in town in July and otherwise I would have to travel so best chance my next meet will be in July.
Thanks coyotegal. I’ll have two girls to love and adore and my wife will add to the estrogen overload so I’ll be pounding heavy weights as much as I can to keep the testosterone high and level out the hormone tide.
ME Incline Bench:

Clean and Jerk:
135 lbs x 3 sets x 3 reps
Standing Crunches:
80 lbs x 25
I had a bad set up on my 285 max attempt incline bench and the bench moved backwards an inch while I did the attempt. I think next week I will try 285 lbs again for a max incline. The ME 4" Deadstop benches were awesome and the rest of the night went well.

Tonight lifting went fairly good and I was excited to have my new trap bar that my wife got me for Valentine’s Day.

Lucky! All my wife got me was a wake-up blowjob in the morning and then 2 hours of non-stop banging after dinner with her and the neighbor’s 22 year old daughter. I would kill for a goor trap bar!
