Hardcore Essentials

You are going to put up some awesome numbers.

Thanks Joe.

GO GET EM !!!

Thanks Up.

Tonight was a light lifting night I was supposed to do last night but I was busy entertaining my 3 year old and unable to break the spell she had on me, “Play with me, please…”

T-Handle Swings:
100 lbs x 2 sets x 20 reps

Deadlifts:
135 x 5
225 x 5
315 x 3
345 x 2 x 3
395 x 2 x 3

Bench Press:
140 x 3
165 x 2 x 3
195 x 2 x 2
225 x 2 x 1 (Paused)

Standing Crunches:
90 lbs x 2 sets x 8 reps

Easy work and fast. Finished in about 40 minutes and full of energy. Blasting Van Halen helps. One more night of light lifting, tomorrow, and then the meet on Saturday.

Tonight concluded the lifting before the contest.

T-Handle Swings:
100 lbs x 2 sets x 20 reps

Crunch Time!

I have a ton of confidence in you. Are you going to take vids?

Ready for action. I’m with Matty recruit someone to get video for you.

I’ve asked my dad or stepmother to take video but if they show up in time for squats or are able to get to the platform is beyond me. I love em’ but I don’t know how important taking the video is to them.

That’s weird I mean you asked right? Tell the to get there a half hour early to compensate for the time lag… I do that with my family all the time. LOL!

Give’em Hell!

I don’t know why but ever time I do light training or not much training I have more body aches than usual. My neck and upper traps are hurting, my legs feel like lead, and my lower back is stressed. Going to do some mobility work and try to rest well for tomorrow.

Weigh-ins today right after work for the meet tomorrow. I’m going to be at least 5 pounds under the limit in the 220’s so no worries. I wasn’t able to put on the weight I wanted for this meet mostly because I work outside and loose 5-8 pounds of water every day while burning fat and energy like crazy.

My diet has been pretty good with an average daily protein intake of around 250 grams, carbs about the same or a little less, and fat intake is composed of a couple grams of fish oil, a gram of flax oil, 3 grams of CLA, 2 grams of coconut oil, and food fats. Sometimes I take a swig of olive oil right from the bottle just for kicks and because it’s good for me.

I hope the sun doesn’t beat me up too much today and it’s all in the bag for lifting tomorrow morning.

Sounds like a good plan on the mobility work, GV. We’re all pulling for you and know that you’re going to kill it tomorrow! Looking forward to the results.

Thanks Wiex.

Have fun tomorrow and tear shit up!

Thanks hawk.

best of luck

Weighed in today at 218.5 lbs which surprised me that I was that heavy. Tonight my weight is exactly 220 lbs. So maybe I’ll get lucky and weigh 221 or 222 in the morning after I eat breakfast before the meet.

Feeling very prepared. My body is a little achy but for the most part I have no limitations in mobility and in the morning I will do a little rolling with the LAX ball and foam roller before heading to the meet.

I’ve packed my clothes for the meet, prepared my supplements for prior and during the meet, packed my belt, wrist wraps, knee sleeves, and a band for dynamic stretches before benching. Made my protein shake for between lifting segments, taking bananas for carbs as well as granola and morning mix for snacking, and I have a rehydration mix (zipfizz-the best out there) for mineral, vitamin, and bcaa uptake.

Supplements for before and during include arginine akg, beta alanine, and inosine as well as a few others such as the very important ribose for atp regeneration and recovery.
My hope and plan is to win my weight class and maybe have the heaviest squat of the meet like I did last year while setting a couple PRs.

ONWARD AND UPWARDS!

You’re going to CRUSH IT GV! Looking forward to hearing about it.

Well, today had its ups and downs. All went according to plans and I opened up with 585 lbs on the squat. Two green lights and a good opener. I noticed the squat bar felt odd to me. My next attempt was 605 lbs, a weight I easily did a week ago. I walked the bar out one step but had to reset my feet. I went in to the bucket but starting up my right hamstring popped and that was it for squats.

I don’t know the extent of the pull but I’m in quite a bit of pain. Any pressure in the area of the pull is excruciating. I think with some naproxin and rest I will recover in a couple days but even sitting is not fun.

I decided to continue lifting and my first bench was strong so I nailed 265 lbs with ease. Next I did 285 lbs easily, three green lights. My next attempt at 300 lbs was going up nicely but when I was pushing up the weight I guess I began pushing with my legs a bit too much and the pain and limitations caused by my hamstring pull caused me to stall so I missed the lift by about an inch. At least I was up 20 pounds from last year’s meet.

Finally, after much consideration and painful warm-ups with light dead lifts up to 315 lbs, I opened with a slow, grinding 405 lbs dead. Good lift, and 3 green lights. Next, I did 500 lbs for a good lift and 3 green lights. So, I was feeling confident to try and lift my planned opener dead(prior to the ham pull). I started to lift 555 lbs but my right hammy said, “Hell no!” so that was it.

It has now been about 4 hours since I left the meet and my right hammy is not so good but this kind of thing goes with the lifting. Recovery and rest time. My 1370 lbs total is well under my expectations but I’m proud to have finished the meet despite my injury and discomfort. I will go on to lift another day and learn from my mistakes. The big immediate challenge will be going back to work Monday but hey I take the risk.

GV, sorry to hear about the hammy. Regroup and rehab. You’ll get another chance to hit the numbers. Soldier on.

Absolutely hawkcapt, I will keep on and go on to smash some records later this year.

Forgot to mention that my parents could not stand the venue but it didn’t bother me, so I didn’t get any video. The gym we lifted in had no air conditioning, only fans. The temperature in the gym was in the high eighties to mid 90 degrees. It was fine with me because those are the conditions I train in my garage every lifting day. My parents however are out of shape and my dad is about 70 and stepmom is in her high 50’s. They can’t take the stifling, humid heat and the crowded conditions of the gym was too much to handle for them so they went home.

The man in charge of Raw United, Spero, is real quality individual and the refs are strict but I think very accurate and fair. The camaraderie at Raw United meets is always something I enjoy and everyone cheers everyone else on. I say some huge lifts today and had an excellent time.
