Hardcore Essentials

Thanks ya’ll. I’d like to hit somewhere in the 655 lbs region for my squat and deadlift for the meet in July. My bench has been lagging however I think I’m capable of close to 300 lbs now and hopefully by July I will be in the 325-355 lbs region for my bench. I being very hopeful and maybe overboard in my expectations but I am shooting for the stars.

Here are some videos from yesterday(I know they suck):

I have to work on the angle of the video and not wearing my shirt out. I felt fairly confident with both squats but I will work to have greater depth.

Tonight I decided to try and do more max work with more benching and deadlifting.

T-Handle Swings:
110 lbs x 2 sets x 25 reps

Bench Press:
135 x 5
175 x 5
205 x 1
225 x 1
255 x 1
275 x 1 (Completely exhausted and barely did a touch and go-not my best work-so that was it)

Deadlifts:
135 x 5
225 x 5
315 x 1
405 x 1
505 x 1 (Slow movement lacking the power and explosiveness I am used to and expect, guess I wasn’t recovered from deads on Sunday)

This wasn’t a great night of lifting for me and I’m sure all the heavy Sheiko work has taken it’s toll. I think I have a lot more left in me for bigger numbers on the bench and deads but for now until I recover from my operation on Friday that’s a wrap on the heavy lifting. I may do some variation lifts tomorrow or squeeze in some very quickly on Friday before being cut just to keep primed before a 4 day lay-off. Then back to the grind with competition prep towards July 13th.

Decided to cancel my operation due to Doctor bumping my scheduled time to earlier in day and I could not get out of work. So, I have longer to train for the powerlifting competition in July now and I’m reconsidering my upcoming peaking cycle.

Are you waiting until after the meet to have the surgery now?

One day I want to have all those plates on the bar for squatting!

Extra points for the old school Metallica!

I was ready for the surgery but the doctor bumped my scheduled time because, supposedly he had an emergency surgery that all of a sudden came up at my scheduled time. I think the Doctor just decided to go out of town for Memorial Day weekend. The new time didn’t work for me so I rescheduled the surgery to the Friday before Labor Day. Hopefully, the doctor will keep his schedule then.

Thanks Matty.

I decided to keep the plan to do the Sheiko Competition program. I’m in to inflicting some pain on myself so Sheiko Comp should be fun.

ME TOO!!

notbig-I appreciate that. You can and will have the plates on the bar (Matty too).

Thanks for the optimism… I have a feeling Matty is getting ready to have a big day in a couple weeks too!

Nice work GV. Meet day will seem like an easy day compared to the shitstorm that Sheiko puts you thru.

You and me both. That’s solid work.

Thanks everyone, I know your’re right hawkcapt1912 Sheiko is no joke.

Solid squats. You’re right, you just have to get down a little further. You’re right there, so it should not be an issue.

Felt crazy tonight because I haven’t lifted in 4 days so I did another 2/3 meet just to give myself some overload.

T-Handle Swings:
110 lbs x 2 x 25

Squats:
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 5
405 x 3
495 x 1
625 x fail
625 x barely parallel (I was much happier with the 625 lbs squat 5 days ago-in comp today’s squat would’ve failed)

Bench Press:
135 x 10
175 x 5
205 x 3
225 x 1
275 x 1 (used SlingShot-no problem)
300 lbs x 1 (SlingShot-OH Yeah!)

Standing Crunches:
90 lbs x 20 reps

First time in 2 years I’ve been able to handle 300 lbs so tonight had its success. I’m going to use the SlingShot for overload benching for the next 7 1/2 weeks or so(during Sheiko) to hopefully make a radicle jump in my benching weight. I just haven’t thought of using my SlingShot but was reminded tonight how useful it will be in allowing me make huge bench gains.

Solid work. That’s a damn big squat. How do you program in the slingshot?

james

James, it’s going to be tough to program in the SlingShot with the Sheiko protocol. I think I am going to try and add in very few sets at the end of benching to overload and use bigger weights than I can handle at the moment. Another idea is to do a very short amount of sets and reps with high weight on days off with the SlingShot(most likely). What do you think?

lol…I have no idea that’s why I’m asking you. It would be cool to get something that I can use to overload to see if it has an impact on my training but wouldn’t know where to fit it in.

I have had some success adding in a few heavy sets with the Slingshot to overload after my regular bench programming. I’m glad you wrote this when I read your previous post I thought you might replace a lot of your regular benching with the Slingshot which I don’t feel would be nearly as effective.

Definitely going to use the Slingshot for sets after my main bench work for overload work and maybe some specialty work on off days like a few heavy sets of floor presses, inclines, or declines.
