Gyms in sydney

To all sydneysiders…i just moved to sydney from the Gold coast and was wondering if there are any good gyms around…with mostly free weights…i’m currently training at the broadway gym on broadway…any help would be appreciated…

I used to train at Souths Juniors. Lots of free weights and cheap as anything. But really high quality and plenty of other facilities.

Sounds like you are near the city - Golds and City Gym are big and popular if a bit gay. Your nearest fitness first will be well equiped for about $70 per month. I train in a dingy abandoned weight room for $40 per month casual but get to play my own music and lift sans shirt.

Here in Melbourne I train at the Monash Uni gym. I think University’s tend to have some pretty decent, non-T-sapping gyms. We’ve got a Olympic lifting area and the like, so its not too bad (although I’d happily go back to my “weight room” at my high school!).

Thanks guys…dre, where is this gym you are lifting at?..sounds pretty hardcore…krakkerz…i’m new to the city so where’s this south juniors place?

On a side note…has anyone ever been to melbourne before??..i’m going down to visit my girlfriend next weekend and need recommendations on someplace to train in the city…thanks…

Big Bruva, i readon some of the otherposts that you’re a law student as well…what year are you in?..do u know any gyms closer to the cuty as the monash gym is quite far out…

My gym is on the northern beaches and is top secret ;). In melb, the easiest city gym to find is down from flinders street station towards crown and is under the train tracks (i think its the underground). There is another nocer gym one or two streets away from it heading away from the yarra.

Tan: can’t recommend any good gyms in the city unfortunately. I live in surburbia and haven’t ever trained in the city. Sorry, mate.

I recently withdrew from my Law studies. I didn’t enjoy the degree one bit, and it was just making my life a pain. Now I’m going to do a Bachelor of Exercise Science, starting next semester. Do you have a background in Law, or something?

Law ??? … Im a Commerce Law Grad thats been practicing for 6 years now including at Allens and Minters. Its super challenging and got me 6 figures 4 years in - worth every bit of any perceived sacrifice during the degree. BB - if you are smart enough to get in Id hang in there or do commerce with a finance major leaving sports/fitness fresh and clean as an interest instead of an obligation. I could go on cause Im seeing a girl that did the sports thing but this is not the place.

Big bruva, i just completed my LLB in bond uni…and am currently doing my LLM at UNSW…dre, i think you’re referring to the underworld gym on flinders…trained there before but i found it a litlle bit intimidating…but the equipment is pretty good…surpised they didnt have a dip station though…thanks…

dre…those are pretty good firms…congrats…trying to get a job myself at the moment…but have been getting the comment that i’m too young…sucks…oh well…

Tan, South’s Juniors is South Sydney Junior Rugby League Club. Its in Kingsford. Most of the NRL teams have decent facilities you can use. I’ve also trained at Sydney Roosters in Bondi. Other guys I know train at the other clubs.
Usually, you have to join the club ($20-40 a year) and pay $1 or $2 a workout.

This isn’t the place, but… I did get top marks to get into Law, but I didn’t chose the course out of interest or enjoyment. I chose it because I was pushed/guided in that direction. Intelligence (as measured by marks in high school) doesn’t necessarily mean you have to do something that “intelligent” people are perceived to do. Shame I came to realise that out now, rather than wasting a year and a half.

Thanks for the info krakkerz…big bruva, i’m into law because i find it very interesting due to the types of areas you can go into…eg investment banking, e-law etc…with the number of specialisations available, i think that there’s something for everyone…just my two cents.
