Im moving to Davis next month, and ill obviously be needing a place to lift wheights. Does anyone know how the ARC meassures up and are there any better alternatives in the city?
There’s a 24-hour fitness over off the 80 by the Sudwerks brewpub. Its pretty decent, if smallish. Has the basics, not too crowded in the weight room. Hotties from UC Davis hit it up pretty frequently too, so some nice eye candy.
www.supertraininggym.com is in downtown Sacramento, if you’re a powerlifter…
I’m a student at UCD so I can comment on the ARC but am unsure of alternative gyms in the area. I have only two issues with the ARC: there is not much open space so if you are all about olympic lifting you better look elsewhere, and it is so crowded at times that it can definitely impair or slow down your workout. For a school of about 30,000 it is a pretty compact weightroom. There are 3 power racks and db’s go up to 150, lots of benches by DB’s, plenty of machines so from an equipment standpoint it is a fine gym.
also if you wanna search for other gyms use daviswiki.org
One more thing, if you ever drive out by Roseville (about 45 minutes from Davis), there is actually a 24-hour with a legit Oly platform and bumper plates. I just about shit when I saw it. And was sad because it was too far of a drive to do regularly.
I do mostly powerlifting workouts, with some BB in between. I only need a place to deadlift, bench and squat and obviously large dbs would be nice. I think im gonna sign up for the ARC. I asked on the wiki if you are allowed to use chalk, which apparently you arent. Can you confirm this?
I despise bent bars and broken plates. Is this a problem in the ARC? I dont mind there being a lot of people.
www.supertraininggym.com looks interesting. Is it a big deal in the US? Im from Denmark.
How about the crossfit centers in Davis? I know, crossfit is gayer than ten greek men and a gallon of olive oil, but they usually have some nice equipment for basic workouts.

You live in Roseville?
I’ve been to that 24 to play basketball but I decided not to check out the weight room due to the giant crowd of skinny russian dudes in american eagle tank tops.
