Gym Idiot Stories

My gym idiot story is about myself.

I was doing cleans one day and I got a bit big headed, thought I could clean more than I actually was able to… anyway, I proceed to “clean” it and realize its too heavy. I didn’t want to make a scene, so instead of bailing out and dropping it, I try and catch it by tucking my pelvis and leaning back.

Needless to say, The next thing I knew I was on the floor with the wind knocked out of me making the weird kid of noise someone makes when the unexpected happens, and a loaded barbell on to of me. I’m just lucky i had the tall 25kg plates on, else I’d have been squaushed!
within the first week of me lifting (about 3 years ago), i saw a guy doing deadlifts… and i had absolutely no idea what he was doing, thought he was stupid lol. i was like ha thats pointless wtf he is doing? i also got on a back extension bench backwards, thinking it was some sort of ab bench… and one time, i had torn my rotator cuff from biking, and about 2 weeks after when i thought it was healed, i was doing incline bench press without a spotter and all of the sudden, my shoulder gave out (it wasnt fully healed even though the doctor said it was) and almost killed myself… some giant guy behind me saved me. everyone has their own gym idiot stories im sure. :]
also, my first time doing a full snatch, i did atg on the bottom part of it and couldnt get back up and just ended up sitting down and falling backwards…without bumper plates or a platform. i didnt know what they were back then.
Haha, I can relate to the back extension thing.

That incline bench accident don’t sound too fun! did you have to get operated on?

the worst bench accident I had was when I went for a 1 rep max without a spotter when I was 18. had 100kg on the bar - wasn’t to bad when it was locked out. But when I got in the hole I couldn’t budge it an inch. I was there for ages making stupid noises trying to get it off, in the end some girl came and helped me… one of my more embarressing gym stories.
The first time I tried to snatch was in my garden and the broken paving slabs are still there to prove the huge failure that snatch was, I did the same as you but I fell backwards instead.

I have many idiot stories, for all aspects of my life.

lol, unfortunately so. ive never had to do it… always had a power rack to be my spot. so did everyone else at my own gym. whats considered rude when asking? anything? …noob questions

Um, just ask a guy after he’s done with his set and say thank you.

Not to derail anything but I need clarification on something.

OP you’ve been lifting for 3 years, and you’re a trainer now?

lol, mhm. theres a lot of clients i say no to, and wont approach because i dont feel comfortable training them, frankly because i dont know enough to work with their condition, etc. but yes, i train generally healthy people, teenagers, etc. and i still do a lot of shadowing. im learning. but yes, im a trainer.
