Wow, interesting post. When I was younger I may have done something but today I would either make a phone call or turn my walkman up. It’s sad but it’s too funking risky these days to get involved with shit like that. Unless you know what’s going on, you’re putting yourself in harms way, either physically or more likely financially/legally. It may be different in Australia (actually, I know it is),but in the U.S. there is a lawyer on every street corner looking to make a buck. Here’s a possible scenario for you- You intervene and bear hug the guy as you try to control his arms. He still has hold of his girl as the 3 of you fall. You all fall, she ends up on the bottom, hits her head and dies. All of the other so-called witnesses take off and you’re left with the guy, the body and the cops. have fun.

Well, that was my mom’s story, one week when I was 13 and out of town. I haven’t seen the fucker since. And everytime I lift a weight, or practice an arm bar, or step into a cage, I’m hoping deep down inside that, if I ever meet him again, I’ll have the inner strength to walk right up to him, without a word, and return the favor. And Ill just ask to serve 3 years too.

The most honest post on this whole thread. Moral of the story call the cops. They get paid to handle this shit.
i never said i would be able to, because i’ve never been in that situation. I just said I hope Ill be able to. And calling the cops didnt really help much did it? He served about 54 days out of 3 years.
Alright, let me ask you guys a question. Let’s say that I get to witness this shit all over again but this time I’m right next to the guy. The guy’s twice my size and in a state of mania. There’s no way I’m going to confront him and try to reason with him becuase he’s just gonna turn on me. Let’s say he’s got his back turned against me while he’s assaulting the lady and I’ve got to do something. Aside from kicking him on the nuts, what is the single best thing I can do to paralayse a beast this big for a brief while untill the cops arrive? If I hit him on the head with a brick as hard as I can, is that likley to lead to death or long-term serious injury?
I’m convinced that guys this big do not feel any pain with any normal amount of force. They seem to have a very high pain threshold. You can swing a baseball bat on the back of a guy this big and I bet they’ll just turn right back. What is the best thing to in a situation like this without killing the guy or causing long-term serious injury? (I don’t want to go to jail.)

everyone ASSumes cyp had a cell on him. calling the cops won’t do jack for the women right THEN cuz it will probably take 5-10 mins to get there, and this was all over in 20 seconds anyways. from what i read he wasn’t even close to do much other than watch. not everyone in australlia is a “mic dundee” and wrestles gators.
I find it selfish and kind of cowardly that some of you are using getting sued or hurt as an excuse not to intervene. Since when did Real Men only act when it was in their best intrest? You do what’s right no matter the consequences. Would you jump in if an older man was beating on a little girl? Probably, so why not for a woman? Any excuse for not stepping in regardless of it’s merits in common sense are still excuses. Be Brave… Be Victorious!

Maybe you think ideas will keep you invincible. Ever got chronic aftereffects of a car/job accident? You know, the type that gets worse every year? The type of pain that will remind you the rest of your life to think before acting? The consequences that just won’t go away? This can be the price of too quick a judgement call or bravado.

Bravery is a good thing. But I guess the following advice from a soldier is also good:

Choose your battles. Assess your chances of victory. Basics, but so true too.
In the end, it’s not just legal considerations. It’s common sense too.
Like, I said If you have a cell phone which you probably do call the police!!! I wouldn’t attack the guy myself personally either but, I wouldn’t just sit there and watch and not do anything about it either. Which you obvouisly did.
id rather take an ass whoopin than stand around and watch a woman take it for me. And unless he throws some soccer kicks or stomps to the head, or pulls a weapon with the intent to kill, chances are there wont be much permanent damage
