Tony: Actually the murder rate in T.O has steadily declined over the last 20 years, there are just more shootings than before. Contrary to most people’s beliefs, the world is probably a less violent place than it has ever been, we just have instant access to ever incident that occurs.
As for the issue at hand, one should never turn their back on an incident like this, but know that you will not be thanked, you will likely get attacked by the woman (if a domestic problem) and you may very likely get sued given the litigious society we live in now. The reason you step in is simply because you have to live with yourself if you don’t. “A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man dies but one”.

Listen- i worked in bars for 12 years and I’ve seen more violent domestic disputes than I care to count, and they all had one thing in common- Goof A starts beating Woman B. Bouncers intervene, often start dipensing fronteir justice to Goof A.
Woman B attacks bouncers in defence of Goof A who was just beating her senseless.
I realize not all battered women would do this, but it happened in 100% of the instances I was involved with.
The least you could have done was to call the Police.
About 15 years ago here, a guy stabbed his wife to death in the middle of a busy downtown street.
So many bystanders got out and tried to help that the guy couldn’t get away before the cops got to him. So not everyone sits by and watches.

ZEB: I never said you have to physically jump in to get involved. Phoning 911 or simply yelling to attract more attention to the situation…anything but turning your back. Maybe you could go home and face your family knowing you did nothing, but I sure could’nt.
I’ve heard stories of this happening, and someone intervenes, and then the woman attacks them. Either that or someone gets hurt and you get sued.
Same thing happens if someone gets in a car accident and you give them CPR and they die, their family will probably sue you.
I think all that matters about the state of this guy’s mind (if he’s being serious) is that he criticized others for their inaction, while not doing anything about it himself. If he had said, “I saw the attack, but none of us wanted to do anything because of possible legal repercussions,” then he’d have an excuse (however flimsy) for not doing anything. As it stands, there is no excuse, and he’s a sackless bitch of a man.
That is why there is the good samaritan law in the US.
Maybe he has a good excuse for just standing by and watching, like being a mute quadrapalegic.
