SW Model 10 or Model 66. Use 38 spcl. loads in it.
If you want to put a bit more effort and practice into learning to shoot and handle the pistol better I’d go with a Glock 19.

A gun intended for use as self defense is useless without a round in the chamber. I guarantee if someone is coming at you with the intent to harm or kill you, you will forget to chamber the round before you start pulling the trigger. In about 1.5 seconds a man armed with a knife can cover 20 feet and stab you.
If you don’t have kids store it wherever you can most easily reach it.
I understand that. I have a double action revolver. But you didn’t answer the question.
So you guys using glocks chamber a round and put it in a drawer without a holster or anything?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I don’t have a lot of experience with semi-autos.
I carry my G19 with a round in the chamber. I use a Blackhawk SERPA holster in paddle configuration. That’s the way it is stored also.
I know Holy Mac is firmly against 12g pump shotguns for home defense, but that’s what I have.
Why?
#1 it was free
#2 the waiting list for a hand gun where i live is about a year long
Do I plan on replacing it, fuck yeah i do!
But for the time being, having a couple free shotguns and rifles within a few feet of my bed with ammo close by will suffice ![]()

I have a somewhat related question for the knowledgeable guys on this forum. I had a G17 for a while and wouldn’t leave a round in the chamber on a hammer-less gun without a manual safety (I didn’t use it for home defense). I understand the desire to remove complications, but what is the proper way to store a newer semi-auto for home defense? Do yall actually chamber a round and leave the gun in a drawer, or holster it or what?
Round in chamber with pistol in a leather or kydex holster. CompTac and raven concealment make good ones, even allowing room for a weapon mounted light on most models

NY is crazy over gun/knife laws. I picked up some blades I wanted to give my brothers for the holidays and had to switch it up becuase they consider anything that can be opened with one had a gravity blade which is not allowed in NY. And not having the option to carry a pocket knife is just insane.

If you think NY gun laws are bad you should take a look at NJ’s. In NJ, we drive to NY to buy guns because shit is so fucked here. You even have to register pellet guns:
In NJ, you need a gun permit to buy a shotgun or rifle. In NY state, you don’t. The other bullshit thing is, if we drive to NY and try to buy a shotgun or rifle the store owner will ask for our drivers license and if it’s an NJ license, they’ll ask for the gun permit and we have to fill out a shitload of paperwork.
And from that staute that defines firearms, air guns are included:
NEW JERSEY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE
TITLE 13. LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY
CHAPTER 54. FIREARMS AND WEAPONS
“Firearm or firearms” means any handgun, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, assault firearm, automatic or semi-automatic rifle, or any gun, device or instrument in the nature of a weapon from which may be fired or ejected any solid projectile, ball, slug, pellet, missile or bullet, or any gas, vapor or other noxious thing, by means of a cartridge or shell or by theaction of an explosive or the igniting of flammable or explosive substances.
It shall also include, without limitation, any firearm which is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas, or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person."

Holy fuck.
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed
Yep, agreed. Two of my friends have put their application through in the last 6mo. Still nothing.
All I know is that they call and talk to your references for up to (if not longer) 30min, make you pay (in total) roughly $175 and then there is the wait…
hey Holy Mac: what type of gun would you suggest for an aspiring ‘sniper’? Meaning, I’ve always had a tendency to enjoy shooting from far away, but dont know where to look for a good long range gun. My one gun buddy here says a .22 and a scope is all i need…thoughts?

lol.
really depends on how much you want to drop and what kind of range/distance is available to you.

I think you can hunt Dik Dik with a .22?
Even though you won’t want to use it for defense, a 22 is a good choice for a first gun:
A) significantly cheaper to shoot than anything else
2) Much easier to handle
3) Less recoil
Many people get turned off by sound/recoil of a big gun and end up never shooting. Get the wife hooked on shooting a 22, and you can buy anything you want later.

The only trick now is to get the wife to do some shooting. She isn’t a huge fan of firearms and has said “I will never under any circumstance shoot someone.” Ayone have any tips? Beating her and verbal abuse has gotten me nowhere…
So will she not do any shooting at all? If anyone threatened one of my loved ones I wouldn’t hesitate to take a shot at them.
I went out to the range with a friend this weekend and shot his Glock 21 45ACP. That first shot was definitely a shock since I’d never shot a handgun before but I really enjoyed it, minus the two shell casings that managed to fly down my shirt and burn my bewbz haha.
I think she would do some shooting (tend to do it while she’s at work or with my friends) if I really wanted her to, but she takes a firm stance on not wanting to shoot anyone for any reason. for the longest time she wanted me to agree that if someone killed her (even if by accident i. e. drunk driver) that I would forgive that person and never seek revenge. Fat chance… pretty much the easiest way to get superpowers is to have your wife be killed and then seek revenge.
Maybe when we have kids she will feel differently.
Choice of firearm for just having fun shooting- probably .22 pistol, if I had more money my answer would be different. I just don’t have as much fun when I know I’m blowing hundreds of dollars in ammo to go shooting for a day.

Yes, she will. The maternal instinct is a powerful one.
Yeah I forgot to ask if you guys had kids yet…I think that’ll definitely change her mind!

POIDNH
Surely you had to see that comin’?

lol no pics, sorry! The range was freezing though, so having the hot shell just fall down my shirt made me start to flail to get it out, then I’d realize I was waving around a loaded gun lol. I prob looked pretty funny
If you are going to buy a gun for self defense the only gun to buy is a glock. No other gun on the market will outlast it, hands down. The only thing to come close is the S&W MP. But you will pay about 200-300 more for it. Don’t listen to people that say to get a 40 over a 9. A 9 to the heart kills exactly the same as a 40 or 45 to the heart. Plus you can afford 9 ammo to practice with. Glock 19 is proven. There is no debate. Do not get me wrong i love my 1911 and sigs, but a glock with never stop shooting. Also dont listen to anyone about recoil, most dont know what they are talking about, yeh a 22 is fun and cheap. A 9mm and a 45 kick about the same. The 45 has looser powder. A 40 kicks the worst because its a high pressure round. Not a good choice. Police are the only ones that carry 40’s because 45’s they thought were to big for women. So they made 40. Now they realized the 40 kicks more and sucks, so most PD’s are switching. Stick with 9. There is a reason are special forces who can pick there weapons and calibers stick with 9mm.
