Gun People

No experience with it but I have used other Taurii and they are decent guns.

I am sure it would be fine if she likes it and will practice with it.

Someone here said they were garbage. They are not, but they are not top of the line either.

PERSONALLY, this is just me, try to find her at least 9mm. 380 will do but shot placement becomes more of an issue. 380 certainly will kill people as gangsters prove daily it’s just that trying to take down say HM or X with a .380 is likely not much advantage. The key would be to empty the mag, hope every round landed and run like hell.

That aside I’ve heard good things about the Taurus TCP 380. My father in law works at a gun show and they can’t keep them on the shelves.

^Thanks, she has issues with the 9 at the range but it may be that I suck as an instructor and she is just not use to a gun of anykind. I’m going to put up some cash to have someone with more experince to work with her. As for me 9mm it is. Its what I was trained with and what i’m use to using.

Have her shot a box of .45 then hand her the 9mm, kidding. Paying someone to instruct her is the way to go and may also prevent her from accidentally shooting you or herself. Good luck.

Yes even after the instruction on downrange at all times. The first misfire and she begins to turn towards me fast saying “should I wait the whole 30 or what?”

And HolyMac, I see you ignore my suggestion of slugs depending on the situation.
sorry man, my posts are all screwed up and aren’t coming in on time.

no hate on shotgun. i think shotgun technology over the past 100 years in both weapon and ammo has drastically improved and extended the abilities of it.

slugs IMO are a poor choice for home defense. they are going to slam though all kinds of drywall.

you can buy defensive rounds in 9mm that prevent over-penatration along with good expansion in a badguy.

shotguns are a nasty weapon that wielded in the hands of an experiened operator are a scary thing to watch.

the only thing i’m ‘hating on’ is that whey someone asks a general question of ‘what would be a good home defense weapon’, people with little to no experience chime in with ‘ZOMG get a 12ga pump’

i remember being at the range and the two guys next to me where shooting a dbl barrel 20ga loaded with birdshot. they shot at a target about 25m out and then one guy turned to the other and said ‘see that spread? this is prob the best gun anyone could have for home defense’

to many movies man.

is she looking for a carry gun or home defense?

This is my daughters trained dog, sleeps in their room. They named him crush, I was worried at first two little girls obsessed with princesses.

I have a glock 27 subcompact and remington 870 12g (stock 18" barrel) with a red dot attached on both at the house for home invasion defense. The girls are taught about the guns, I have mossberg 702 plinkster to teach my oldest, she is 5, we just started gun safety and gun cleaning. Once she seems to have basic competencies we will move on.

But if someone breaks in they are taught to stay in the room and not open the door, the sound of the dog screaming and bashing off the door should deter invaders from that area and provide some distraction.

This is mostly for home defense, I’f im not around she needs to be able to feel comfortable with it (thats why the range is her new weekend friend) and can handle it with those tiny azz hands. If she ever decideds to take the CCW course is up to her.

Spend lots of time practicing with your chosen weapon(s)!! That’s the real solution. I just started shooting a handgun for serious a couple months ago and it is a lot harder than “point and shoot” for sure (if you want to hit anything or have anything resembling a group that is).

Also, pic relevant.

ah yes.

LET’S USE BIRDSHOT AS A DEFENSIVE ROUND!!!

it’s funny, just like half the threads here on bodybuilding, when it comes to guns, you have a bunch of people giving advice when they obviously have no idea what they hell they are talking about.

[sorry for the shitty run on sentence]
Better choice than a 9mm going through the wall and the babies head.

It is a defensive situation, less than lethal MAY save you trouble in the long run. It may also save you the moral anguish of killing another human being.

Or it may kill him at close range.
Moral anguish for killing another human being? I have the moral authority to rip a mans head off if he enters my space and intends to harm me, or my family, in any sort of way.

Bird shot? BIRD SHOT? Lets just give everyone in the household a BB gun and tell everyone to shoot on the count of three.

when looking at pistols, an advantage of choosing one for home defense is you don’t have to worry about whether it’s small/comfortable enough to be able to wear/conceal it.

i think a mistake made by guys trying to get their wives/gfs into guns is they instictivly go for a ‘chick gun’.

while obviously i’m not suggestion she start using a kimber 1911, a fullsize or subcompact pistol in 9mm may allow for her to fire a more substantial round, and the larger size of the handgun with help her with grip and recoil managment.

of course it will come down with what feels comfortable to her, but that would be something to consider

^Thanks…Good Advice.

I don’t know anything about guns but i always thought the H&K 45 was a cool looking pistol.

I have no problem with someone killing an invader but they certainly may have nightmares about it. You don’t know unless you have done it.

Bird shot =/= to bb gun. If you read my post you would see that you could use birdshot if your main concern was overpenetration. I am not recommending it across the board but it has its uses and the beauty of a shotgun is flexibility of ammo.

I don’t understand this at all. How will a cell phone help you defend your life in the hypothetical dire circumstances where the relevance of which gun to own is the topic?
It won’t.

When seconds count, police are only minutes away.

As important as a gun is in my home. Having those cell phones next to the bed are just as important to me. If something happens a weapon even in a trained person hands is never a promise that everything will work out. I like the idea of knowing the cops are on the way AND she has a weapon. It was not meant as a replacement for the weapon.
