Wish I could contribute more but I suck at vid and pic stuff on these sites. Sorry.

The Vai scene in Crossroads was amazing. For those who don’t know - Vai was playing the Devil’s guitarist and the main character had to duel him:

Don’t forget to mention Ry Cooder who scored the film and played Macchio’s parts. He’s pretty accomplished in his own right.
Good point! I need to go and pray that the gods of Rock forgive me ![]()

I think a lot of the speed that came after eddie lost style and soul. Guys like Gilbert to me were just technicians.
Anybody listen to Dweezil lately. Been watching some clips and Blues Saraceno also very cool style not just fast he has a very cool little pick line all the time.
I only have two of Dweezil’s albums (one very early, one very recent). He’s damn good, and fun to listen to. Need to listen to him more.
Old (1991) clip from a tribute concert with Vai and Dweezil “duelling” from somewhere around the 1 min mark (to stay on topic of guitar solos):

Two blues legends- few could play solos like either of these two cats.
Jeff Healey and SRV wilin’ out.
And really- no Allmans up in here? Around 2 mins in Duane kicks in with the slide guitar and just blows away… and then they have the dueling guitarists at the end. Really one of the finest bands to ever come out.
Man I miss Southern Rock.
Another absolutely incredible Angus Young solo. Guy really doesn’t get enough credit for being the amazing guitarist that he is.
This solo he tears off during the end of Whole Lotta Rosie is just balls to wall rocknroll badassity.
Another of the finest solos I’ve ever heard- The Boss and Tom Morello dueling guitars first, then Morello’s solo… that guy is on another planet. The second solo is at 5:55.
Another by Angus- the solo he does in the middle of Rocker is awesome.
The coolest thing about this video is it’s filmed for the BBC, so when Angus starts running around playing into the crowd, they’re all super douches about it- except for one dude dressed like a schoolboy rocking out on the balcony.

The solo at the end is a killer , when i first heard this , repeated it countless times , damn sweet melancholy!
I heard this version though
Also check this out, stick through end , you might just like it
has been looping on me for more than 10 times trippy stuff:

Not a big fan of Tom’s playing here. I think he relies on effects to much - during the first solo @2:40 Bruce easily outperforms him, because they are both playing simple stuff and I feel like Tom has problems holding back and is not quite sure what to do.
Plus his tone sounds a lot worse than Bruce’s, very hollow. I generally like a nasal guitar sound, but something is off here.
Don’t get me wrong, Morello is amazing and I have probably heard most of his material. It’s just that I don’t think his playing works in this particular context.

Completely hear you. Bruce is underrated too as a straight up guitarist.

No.
No he’s not.
In fact, it would be incorrect to describe him as a ‘guitarist’ rather than a singer/songwriter who can ‘play’ a guitar.
Who next is an underrated guitarist? Bon Jovi? Elvis Presley?

I am from New Jersey. Do not argue with me about Bruce Springsteen.
As far as I’m concerned, he invented the wheel, flight, and the '68 Hemi Cuda.
Save your breath.

Hey, I’m from New Jersey, too!
As far as I’m concerned, he’s responsible for the smell.
I had never heard of this guy until a few days ago, and he has got some skills.
Or him. If I could piano tap like that I would be content in never practicing ever again.

I agree about Bruce being more of a singer/songwriter than a guitarist, but in the context of the above video he played the guitar better than Morello because he was able to fit the song better. So he may not be a better guitarist than Morello, but he played better this time.

I picked up my guitar again and decided I’ll finish learning this song by finally getting the solo down:
Starts 4:55 in.
Nothing crazy but I’ve always loved it.
