All my cravings are getting added to my post weigh-in re-feed list.

At this point I’m not sure whether I’m more excited about the competition or the 24 hour feast.

That’s a lie, at this point I’m definitely more excited about the food.

Warning: lots of vids coming up and most ain’t of my lifting even though this is my training log

Australia Day gains. Not sure which gym/s are open today so we’ll see where I end up. Iron Revolution is closed so it’s off to Doherty’s Brunswick for some gains on a hot humid day (fucking weather)

I step into the gym and immediately my eyes are drawn to the deadlift platform. fully loaded (with bumpers) the bar explodes off the ground, slows a bit then is locked out cleanly. About half the room was watching.

Coming closer I see it’s 7 plates and change (later counted it proper at 310kg) and as the dude turns around I recognise the face from Instagram.

It’s Kevin Booey and I went all fanboy mode instantly. Pretty much he’s an IPF lifter, holds a record or two, represented/will represent Australia at Worlds in the 83kg class and is the owner of one of the sickest conventional deadlifts ever. We got to chatting and he seemed a pretty chill guy. Got some advice on equipment, mentality/confidence and other IPF Approved secrets like apparently Brett Gibbs is a cunt but I digress. here’s some of his vids:

Through the workout, whether I followed him around or he followed me, we ended up near and he checked out my lifts and we chatted shit also. Cool guy overall and smaller in real life then on film. Mid way through I got the cheeky angle on him though I couldn’t out angle his height lol.

A bit rushed for time today compounded with chatting up Booey so skipped loads including front squat and OHP. #skipaccessories

Squat
155kg (not sure cos calibration and IPF approval lol) x 5,3,3,3, Rep PR

Off comp plates and Eleiko power bar for the first time in a while. So don’t know about the iffy rep PRs lol and volume PR. Now to do this with calibrated comp equipment.

Overall squats felt alright. Am still trying to consistently hit the groove cos when I’m off it I know cos I like slow down loads.

Also tweaking descent speed to see if anything’s better. In the vid I’m doing a slow descent (for me). According to Kev Booey it’s too deep for Powerlifting.

Bench
87.5kg x 7,8,8,7 Rep PRs

Also non comp bar and plates but I think I can’t live without a comp bench now that I’ve lifted on it consistently.

Trying a new set up where I set my back and upper back arch while sitting up on the edge of the bench. Then plopping back down with legs still on the ground. Then a scrunch myself up the bench and tuck my legs under.

Noticeably bigger arch this way which was probably why I got the rep PRs. On the RoadTo1InchROM. Finished off with a volume PR also.

ROM decrease may also be partly due to me trying out the bull dog/jap grip. Feels a bit awkward but just as stable as my previous grip. I still think I need to find the sweet spot though. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sumo Deadlift
195kg x 6,5 Rep PRs

Usually the Doherty’s Brunswick platforms are shite for pulling sumo cos you run out of platform at the rings and have to half stand on the uneven squishy surface. Also the bar rolls in the dents and bounces all over the place on the uneven surface.

HOWEVER Watched/filmed by the deadlift god himself I had no choice but to go ham with a rep PR by two reps instead of one (so hit 6 when program for 5).

Ran out of time so skipped all the other things.

Terrible workout going by the amount of stuff I skipped but the stars aligned so that I could chill with one of the lifters I look up to so… pretty good day I’d say.

You complai, about the width of the platform and then dont even set the bar up in the middle, so you have one foot completely off the platform and one foot on it? Lel? What? Crazy fool.

My gym is the same so I always set with heels on the platform and toes on the squishy stuff.

I don’t have OCD but that was painful to watch ha.

My champion is Devon Larratt

Whenever I watch him compete I genuinely consider goving up the gym to train as a full time arm-wrestler.

Then you see a vid of some dude breaking his arm lol

For yesterday’s deadlifts I had an Eleiko bumper on one side and an unbranded bumper on the other side.
