Next Goal: 300kg Deadlift

Missing 280 at comp…I truly couldn’t care less about. I know I am capable of more… or at least in the past I definitely was.

There’s been times during the past year where deadlift performance has been much higher. This whole past block deadlifts have been well below what I am/have been capable of. Tooting my own horn on purpose here to manifest some positive energy and a phat deadlift.

We are going back to the training set up that pushed deadlift performance highest in the past. After having gone through a comp prep I’m more skilled with deadlift singles than I was in the past and motivation wise I’m hungrier than ever for gains. Put this all together and 300 is inevitable.

Squats have been deprioritised and the deadlift work is based around relatively low volume hi rep deadlifting (lil unconventional but works for me). We are trying some new accessories and gonna smash em hard to get bigger than ever, potentiating strength gains.

This what it looks like:

I was shocked how close your DL and squat ended up being. lil DL regression and a lot of squat progress. 300 by autumn or spring or whatever backwards ass seasons you have in the upside down?

It was a pretty average squat day actually so the gap could’ve been closer lol.

I’m feeling optimistic. 300 not far off. Maybe a block or two. Can’t really control/predict how fast adaptions happen with training can only do the best we can to facilitate them and then see

We have all 4 seasons in Victoria mate and they follow each other just like yours do.

As someone who grew up in Vegas I’m not sure I could name all 4 seasons, especially not in reverse order.

Life Update

This isn’t exactly lifting related or at least not my lifting but just today I’ve had an opportunity to start working as a coach at a small private facility that I’ve interacted with a bit (seminars, good friends with their coaches and some of their members). Still pending trials next week but on the gym floor or programming wise I have complete confidence in myself. It’s an exciting opportunity to put it mildly or if we are being a little dramatic it’s taking steps, part time lol, towards living the dream (my dreams at least). I love strength sport and the community so much it would be the dream to earn a living being part of that community and helping people.

My plan until the past 2 days was to complete my masters (teaching) and make that the main hustle while growing my side hustle of coaching up until it became the main hustle or almost a full time hustle.

It’s all happening fast and not according to plan but I’m feeling like YOLOing it/sending it and going all in. I have plenty to fall back on if need and intend to still complete the masters even if part time, seek registration as a teacher and do some relief or part time teaching as needed.

BUILD PHASE

Post meet we are building, getting in very productive training without necessarily worrying about having the highest 1RM / weight on the bar right now. Goal is to get bigger and stronger than ever, building a base from which we can peak to some crazy weights for 1RMs. 300kg DL remains a priority also so we are building towards that too.

My motivation continues to be high post meet. I’m enjoying training and hungrier than ever to make gains. We took many lessons from the last full training cycle and are applying it now so we are doing better than ever. Big takeaway is to work harder now in the off season/build phase. I left some gains on the table last time around but this time we gonna do it better.

Hit the first PRs of the Build Phase yesterday with 190kg x6 and 200kg x5 narrow stance high bar squats. These are an awesome movement for building a base and it’s promising early on in the block to be shifting some decent numbers. ROM feels like double my competition style squat (low bar / wide stance) lol. Lot of work is being done with some decent weights. Not far off my best rep work in low bar / comp style either (210x7). We building.

First week at the new job with a few morning coaching shifts has been a lil tougher on recovery.

I’m enjoying the coaching job other than waking up early some days. Can barely call it a job because I do that stuff for fun. At worst programming I actual enjoy sitting in front of the computer tinkering with a spreadsheet. Good community and culture at the gym. It just feels right and I love it.

Deadlifts are building this block. No actual PRs just yet we won’t have singles until next block. Rep work works for me DL we thinks. So far we’ve hit 260kg x 6 comp deadlift and 245kg x 8 pause DLs. Nothing too crazy but not far off my best. Hopefully we can build a big base and peak it to 300 next block

Had some fun lifting after work tonight. 270kg x reps with straps (straps inflate the sumo powers a lil to be fair)

RoadTo300 Update

We continue to hunt 300kg dl. No singles this block (so not really any opportunity to go for it) but capacity is higher than it’s ever been before driven by twice a week relatively hi rep deadlifts.

Have been using straps for the rep work which admittedly inflate the numbers a chunk but comparing like to like this is the strongest I’ve ever been.

Hard to tell how all the work this block will translate to a single with hook grip exactly. We might already be there or maybe need to build a bit more. Either way next block we have singles so will get a sense of where a comp standard deadlift is

290 x 3
280 x 5
275 x 5
Paused DL 260 x 7
