Light deads today with a top paused single @ 220kg and then hamstring accessory work. Kinda nice not to be pushing the intensity as much anymore because there’s mental pressure to hit the big weights that way. Just working these days.
Don’t enjoy the GHR/hamstring curl combo as much as the hack squat/leg press combo but getting thiccer everywhere can’t hurt. It’s fun to embrace me inner bodybuilder again.
First mini break I’ve had all year. Uni break at least. Still doing professional experience in teaching at school. Took the opportunity to visit the city, Melbourne. Gyms just opened again so paid a visit to Iron Revolution me home base powerlifting/strongman facility. It’s nice as I remember (they added a cable machine so better I guess).
Unfortunately wasn’t a particularly productive session top single on squats 185kg and played around with an SSB. Was an ATX one and I don’t think it has enough padding if u look it up. I like the movement though but would need to invest in a thiccer padded SSB. Also using bumpers on squat felt super whippy coming from months of almost exclusively using thin comp plates. Was surprising it’s the first time I’ve ever felt thrown off by bar whip on the squat. Pretty scary.
Been given notice of which classes I’m teaching early next year and it’s a near full load so the first powerlifting meet will have to be pushed back to some time mid next year because the first half of the year will be busy af. Could’ve gotten it in during this period in hindsight but wasn’t sure if COVID restrictions would permit until recently. Oh well. Might test early next year anyway even if not a full meet prep.
Didn’t end up pulling on the Texas Deadlift Bar today but had a feel of it again.
Knurling is definitely the most aggressive of any bar I’ve handled. Overly so. It’s beyond the point of helping grip security and is actively detrimental increasing risk of tears and making hook grip set up a pain.
Yeah I have to learn quite a lot of it just to talk to people who have also learned it in order to talk to me. Even though we speak the same first language, we could also use and in turn need to use in order to translate the conversation to the affected person we are talking about, who didn’t learn the third language.
Oh I see. Interesting did not know it got use that way. I throw in a mea culpa maxima every now and then for kicks more like. Like to spam etc. in an academic contest
There is also an MCL in the knee and elbow, an LCL in the knee and elbow, a deltoid ligament and a deltoid muscle, a trapezium bone and a trapezium muscle
Well in reality it also enables me to talk to people who don’t share a living language with me. Provided we share this dead one.
I think the real reason is to sound smarter and more educated though.
Acromeoclavicular Gelenk (joint) sounds way smarter than Schultereckgelenk (literal translation: shoulder-corner-joint).
Much better solve in the English language just taking the Latin word btw.
I’ve used the SSB a bit at my previous gym and liked (disliked?) it, but I feel like it might help the deadlift more than the squat. I’d like to own one, but a high quality SSB is so $$$$$$.
