Yeah, and I would normally agree with you. But I am obsessive about stuff, so going through the process of SOUNDLY beating you in that competition would mean I was not focusing on my press and push press.
I am very much an overly competitive person, but it isn’t always in my best interests. Plus, imagine how fat I would get.
I respect ur commitment to ur goals. Incline press is pretty close assistance work though at least closer than decline press so there’d probably be a way to squeeze it in like u said u are. How are u incorporating it?
Yeah, in fact I am incorporating it specifically to assist with the presses. Mostly I have been alternating incline and decline, but not on any specific schedule, basically just alternating weeks more or less. In fact, none of my upper body work is on any kind of actual plan right now, I am going about it intuitively. Including the pressing.
So I might be inclined (haha) to take you up on some random challenge, but I would counter-intuitively have to avoid go after it too hard.
Well I guess we’ll see what happens then. Dunno where either of our incline presses will end up with some training but hopefully more with decent carryover to the main lifts. 100kg x many reps sounds good to me
I travel a lot, and always look for the gym most likely to have someone squat 500# to drop in. As a youngster I got demolished a time or two with this mentality, but I wouldn’t change it one bit.
If you’re in the bigger cities you’re right, but I live outside a metro area in TX and work outside a metro area in Pennsylvania and Ohio. So I make the short drive to the better gyms. Honestly it wakes me up for the day and gets my head in the right space.
Shitty deadlift sesh. Felt like a haven’t had a good one in a while. Butthurt that I missed 250kg for a pause ded but probably wasn’t a good day for it.
Hit back off volume with 230kg (20 reps total) which also felt slow but on a positive note decent work. I think could’ve hit 12 with 230kg if fresh which is solid enough for a low day. Bit of DB rowing as well with reps at 45kg.
Played around with the lever belt and at least it wasn’t detrimental to deadlifts. Forgot the screwdriver so it was too tight. When the PAL comes in it’ll be interesting. Might finally deadlift with belt consistently.
Bit of squatting today. Average feeling so just did some work. Top set 185kg in sleeves and 170kg tempo work. No PRs but nice to know this is pretty casual. Earlier in the year ~150kg made me a little nervous so that’s progress.
Between sizes with the lever belt so bracing was pretty off either not enough pressure or too tight. Donning/removing me hoodie made it work but missing the microadjustability of the pioneer cut belt. I’d use a different setting for deadlifts as well so keen for the PAL lever.
Pretty full on with teaching science/biology these days but got in a bench volume sesh: wide grip, weighted dips and accessories.
Wide grip not feeling particularly good at heavier weights but will take some time. I’m about right on the cusp of wide grip bench PRs so with some more time in the wide grip we’ll see how it compares to the close grip that I’ve been using as my comp press.
Missing machine quad work bit more given there’s been no word on gyms opening here. Quite a few other industries are starting up again like beauty and such but gyms didn’t make the cut. Even if I have the will to spend on a leg machine there’s nothing in stock anyways at least anything that’s not $3000 commercial grade stuff.
I haven’t done front squats or quads in forever. Legit lost a chunk off my thighs. I’m waiting for access to a leg press or hack squat to start building em again
