GuineaPig’s Training Log - Hunt 300 Deadlift

I was going with “Thigh crease and top of thigh”, but I think it is splitting hairs. Judging being subjective means you can get screwed or gifted at any time.

That pic looks pretty deep compared to some the squats that pass in the USPA not gonna lie

I think they should either rule in favor of the lifter if there is any uncertainty, or even better set up side view cameras so they can double check. IPF raw worlds a few years ago had cameras set like that, seems like it was just for the video replay but it could be used for judging as well. They have objective measures of what they are looking for, so there is no reason to be subjective about it.

Just about all rulebooks refer to the top of the knee and the top of the thigh at the hip joint, which is the so-called hip crease.

Yeah but look at the yellow “parallel line”, the guy is about 2 inches below parallel. It’s not saying your squat has to be that deep, just the hip crease has to go lower than the imaginary line.

USPA has somewhat inconsistent judging, and seeing what happened to Yury I’m starting to wonder about WRPF too. It is what it is, don’t expect loose judging but if you are hitting depth and getting red lights you should be pissed off. Just go an inch or two deeper than my 600 squat and you should be fine.

When you consider that it is supposed to be parallel, as in the femur is supposed to be parallel to the floor, it feels like the rules are a complication of that. I tend to squat deep anyway, so it wouldn’t affect me I don’t think, I’m taking a run at my sticking point and starting in the hole to do it. It just seems like in this day and age we could set up something to make it black and white.

Yeah they just need some objective standards and cameras, there is too much drama over squat depth these days.

Without wraps I have no issue hitting depth at all, I haven’t gone heavier than about 485 I think in a while since I’m trying to focus on my wrapped squat but sometimes it feels like it’s not worth the headache. At least these SBD wraps don’t stop me much, they seem to work better for me overall.

Equipment is it’s own special set of complications. Like guys that can’t get the bar to touch with less than 600 on the bar. It’s legal, but weird to have to do a row to hit full ROM on Bench.

Some guys need close to a thousand to touch.

My problem was that I was using the wrong sort of wraps for my squat style, I want something with minimal stopping power. I know you have been out of PL for a while but the knee wraps have gotten a bit complicated in recent times, too much variety.

I have two pairs, one is pretty good and has velcro so I don’t have to tie them off or anything. I doubt very much that they are legal anywhere in PL, but no issues in Strongman. Everything regarding equipment has gotten out of my wheel house, honestly.

I don’t think any feds allow velcro, I’m also not aware of any wraps made for PL these days that come with velcro either. It would be pretty convenient though.

Wraps are as far as I will go into equipment, the suits and shirts are a bit ridiculous. Also I want to actually get stronger, not just lift more because I figured out how to use a piece of equipment that allows me to lift 300lbs more. At one time I had no interest in wraps either, I bought a pair of inzer grippers because I was following a program that had wrapped squats as overload work and I hated the wraps. At some point I decided to get away from the IPF and their bullshit and in other feds it seems like raw with wraps is the big thing so I decided to give it a shot, here I am now.

I’m going to continue with what I’m doing now with some singles and stuff for around 8 weeks, after that I want to push my non-wrapped squat more. Maybe I will still do a set or two in wraps every few weeks, for the overload and so I stay used to them.

That’s basically how I ended up with groove briefs. I own the other stuff because it’s legal in Strongman and I was already giving up a lot competing natty (Actually low test, but I didn’t know enough to know that at the time). I bought some stuff for overload work, and never really learned the equipment enough to get everything out of it that I could have. Oh well. It was still cool to be the only guy at Nationals to walk out there in shorts and a T-shirt and crank some reps on Car DL when other guys were scratching in full gear. I don’t care for the over specialization that equipment brings, but I don’t like mountains of rules either.

Not a strong feeling day so pocket deadlift work today: hard but not too hard. Top set on deads 230kg x 4 and pause deadlift PB: 240kg x 2. Pause deads actually feel more solid than straight comp deads maybe something about being more deliberate with tensioning/positioning at the start of the lift.

Didn’t do mobility warm ups and it for sure made a difference to positioning. Think I was compensation for less hip mobility in the upper back via rounding.

RDL PR 180kg x reps and accessory work to finish off.

Can see why a microadjustable lever would be handy. I’m between two sizes depending on if I’m where a hoody or not that makes me thiccer. Having to unscrew the lever is a bother

Bit of pocket bench work today. 3x3 @ 120kg Spoto Press, TnG and weighted dips. Nothing special but solid work and happy to not overshoot. We’ll try to keep staying in the pocket and hopefully make some gains.

Been wearing me new belt around 24/7 to break it in. Gotta have max torso stability for studying.

Forgot me phone for once so no vids, music or programming for the Sheiko Gold app. Weird vibes without the phone but I kinda know what’s up anyway so got in a solid sesh:

Pause Squat PR: 165kg x 5 @9
Double Pause Squat PR: 175kg x 2 @9
Long Pause Bench
Wide Grip Bench
JM Press

Maybe overshot a bit but felt strong like my posterior chain could deal with anything on squats. Didn’t do back off volume to hopefully set up a strong deadlift day next.

The new lever belt performed well. I can certainly see the appeal in the quick set up. Is breaking in nicely but I’m looking forward to getting the microadjustable lever (PAL) when pioneer releases it to get the perfect fit.
