GuineaPig’s Training Log - Hunt 300 Deadlift

By these standards 80-90% peeps on social media are high. Does everyone just sink it extra come meet day?

I don’t think that’s accurate, but some people do squat a bit high in training and manage to hit depth in the meet. Dennis Cornelius is one who seems to manage like that.

Do a survey of ur insta feed lol. Speaking of depth Belkin just broke the ATWR in sleeves. Survived some red lights for depth. Russian have high standards. I’ll check ur next squat vid and roast ur depth in revenge. Better be bouncing ur butt off the floor

The difference between doing it in the gym and doing it at a meet. Gym PR’s are great, but they don’t really count compared to meet results. Some guys just lift better at a comp. I tend to on certain things.

Are you talking about in a meet or in training though? You asked if it was comp depth, I would give you red lights.

What do you think of this one?

I would say just barely depth, and if the judging was strict it wouldn’t pass. Any IPF meet would red light it. That’s from the spring leading up to a meet that ended up cancelled, I was saying I need another inch or two to be safe.

For total or what?

I see the video on his IG, but not the lifts he missed. His squat looks much deeper than necessary anywhere (except social media) so unless he cut another one stupidly high I don’t see why they would give him reds. In the last meet the one he got call for depth on did look questionable though.

I don’t really think it’s a question of Russians being excessively strict, it’s just some judges here and there (outside the IPF where it’s nearly all of them) that want you to go way deeper than necessary for some odd reason. Either they are just assholes or they are too lazy to actually try to judge and if its not blatantly obvious that it’s depth you will get reds.

His bench isn’t doing too good, 15kg off his best. He said in an interview a while back that his shoulders are messed up, I guess he hasn’t managed to sort that out.

Vid is broken for me

Edit: pulled it from ur YouTube. Tbh I can’t see shit too dark. Also tuck ur fookin shirt in if u wanna judge depth lel.

I dunno what the hip crease is even meant to be and judging is a bit inconsistent in that way. Maybe should just go top of the quads or at least the tangent at the peak should be parallel to the ground. As people get bigger they need to squat deeper lol.

Ye he just chipped the total by 2.5kg could be taken by quite a few people so it’s entertaining at least compared with Belkins dominance in wraps

You were at least an inch high, but the suit hides your hip crease a little, I had to watch it a few times to be sure. You would definitely get away with it in some feds, but not tight judging. Are you fighting the wraps for depth there?

Finished an assignment today so didn’t eat anything before heading in for some bench.

Felt pretty shitty but was fun to hit some new movements: incline press and seated overhead press. Throwing them into the mix to keep building pressing muscles. 80kg x many reps is a nice incline press rep PR to start with and seated overhead feels very comfortable right out the blocks.

When things get hard I seem to arch more shifting the load away from the front delts. With standing overhead pretty easy to hit a huge lean. Maybe there’s a weak point there to target. So seated being a little stricter is harder than standing for me rn

The Monolift attachment was pretty handy for this because u can take the weight out to where u need it comfortably.

I would say borderline depth at worst, I guess you are more on the stricter side of things.

It’s a singlet, not a squat suit

Yeah, those wraps are hard to hit depth in, as well as tying them off and also taking them off after. That’s why I’m trying to use some different wraps at the moment.

Do u use long nose pliers to finish off ur wrap? Pretty easy that way and it lives a little bit u can easily pull to undo the wrap

Yes I use long needle nose pliers, the issue with the super heavies is that I really have to fight to get a 7th revolution and sometimes there is barely anything left to tie off. One revolution makes a significant difference in carryover with them. Also if I don’t manage to set a quick release where I tie off it’s real hard to get them off because the wrap is so stiff. There were a few times that the struggle to get the wraps off took over a minute and was way more fatiguing than the set itself, and that would really fuck you up in a meet where you have limited time to put in your next attempt.

See my log, I did a single in them today, I don’t think they really give me any more carryover than the SBDs and they stop me too much, not really what I need. The SBDs are a pain in the ass too, but in a different way. They have more stretch but the elastic is super strong, stretching when I roll them up takes a lot more effort and if I don’t then wrapping is harder. But either way the wrapping isn’t easy, although I can get 8 revolutions no problem. They also don’t make your skin sore, which is a bit of a bonus.

All this talk about tying off sounds like we’re shooting heroin.

Whatever ur into bro

I thought borderline, but I paused the video a bunch of times to see where you actually stopped and it looked an inch high when I could look at it frozen for a few seconds. Some judges actually put you in the hole to get a white, so there’s that. In a strongman contest I’d pass you, in a PL meet you have a 50-50 chance I think. I suspected it was a singlet, but I wasn’t sure.

Maybe you have different standards, see page 25 here for what is considered to be the top of the knee and hip crease in USPA:

https://uspa.net/resources/USPA_Rulebook.pdf

Page 8 in this rulebook shows the minimum required depth for WPC:

We’re splitting hairs here, but I would say I just barely broke parallel but like you say it could go either way.
