Legitimately terrible session for first deadlift at lockdown 2.0. Did some lifting but nothing productive in particular. Haven’t had a truly bad deadlift sessions in a while so that’s a positive spin.
Lifting in the rain was something new. Everything got wet though. Hope that mats dry ez. Garage is uneven af. Wil try a different spot
On a positive note in feeling pretty handy and problem solvi these days. Threw some planks that I took out when I flipped the bed up under the bench rack to increase the height of the hooks.
Have been unracking from too low so it’s been detrimental but the planks are just the right height for a perfect comp grip unrack and just low enough for a wide grip unrack.
If something doesn’t wipe out most of human society hopefully make fun of us, pity us, criticise us for having learnt from our mistakes and living in better times.
But probs not. We’ll be lucky to make it 100 years without being sent back to the Stone Age. Or we could just all be Chinese in the end when China takles over
Lifting in the rainsucks. I think the barometric pressure makes the weights heavier, LOL.
On a serious note, what do you use to clean the bars? I would love to get the rust off of one of the bars I bought.
For medium difficulty jobs 3 in 1 oil breaks down rust and other muck and an assortment of brushes (various materials nylon, brass and steel usually).
Use the nylon to get out as much as you can. Then 3 in 1 and brass brush to clear as much as you can. Leave to soak for a while. Repeat 3 in 1 and brushing if desired (with harder brush materials if u want but steel scratches steel and/or ur barbell’s coating).
For harder jobs might need more hardcore things: rust remover, vinegar baths, power tool wire brushes etc.
Hey man - loving the lifting in here as always. Would normally say nothing since you’re stronger than me, but you seem pretty concerned with long term safe progression, so I figured I’d ask you if you know you’re hyperextending your legs when you hit the top of your squats. You finish them super fast and have beast quads so I know there’s a pop, but I think the leg snap is a little exaggerated.
I took a picture which just starts to show the hyperextension, but I can’t grab the deepest part of it- if you watch the video it gets at a significant angle, though only for a fraction of a second.
Maybe a little. I think nothing too excessive in terms of joint health though because it’s very comfy at least so far (my knees have been the heaviest part of me lol). I’m not hyper-mobile and feels like still have a few degrees extension available while still supporting the load across my musculature. Anatomically the knee’s most stable position AKA the close packed position is around full extension. Least stable funnily enough is in a quarter squat like 25 degrees at the knee: ligaments are relatively loose and the joint has a bit more play in it in directions isa not meant to move so in athletic pursuits is relatively risky position. Maybe something to be said for balance and control in the movement, could always use more, but again so far its not an issue especially if I’m paying attention/not being sloppy.
If anything my back might be a bit hyper extended because i’m not in the best positions when unracking from the mono.
