GuineaPig’s Training Log - Hunt 300 Deadlift

I have the deadlift bar.

How do you find it? You tried any others for comparison?

I have tried the texas deadlift bar, rogue, sqmize and strengthshop.
To my own surprise I can say the strengthshop one can hold it’s own (surprise because I’m not a fan of them).
It’s closest to the rogue out of those options. Rogue has better knurling though.

Disclaimer: Tried sqmize twice but the others once each. Also I am not a strong deadlifter.
Strengthshop had a massive deal on them on blsck friday or whatever and that’s the reason I went with them. I definitely don’t regret my choice.

That’s one reason I haven’t got one (don’t really need one but definitely fancy one!) It’s 370gbp! If it was closer to 200 if consider it.

I can get the same bar as the pig (strongarm sumo) delivered from Canada for less (309 GBP even without asking about shipping price reduction). Which makes me wonder why would I bother buying from UK supplier, surely that’s just stinging their customers? I dunno I buy a fair bit from them but only when I feel it’s good value. I can also get a Texas DL bar cheaper posted from US than from Strengthshop.

Wait wtf?! I got my strengtshop bar for 270€ if memory serves. Cheapest I can get a texas one for is 800€! :o
Rogue was between 5 and 600 €.

Yea it’s just too much to justify on a single specialist bar which will only artificially inflate my DL numbers, which I’m totally not against, but I feel dropping that sort of money is much better dropped on something I’d get more use out of.

Yeah I totally get that. I was/ am just surprised about a) local manufacturor prices and b) low import prices in the UK, haha.

Maybe one day I’ll pay those low import prices (or just go to Canada again and bring it back with me!)

Lol wat?

I went with StrongArm because everything was sold out in Australia. There’s not many deadlift bars available in country in the first place. Rogue Australia, Goliath (an Australian powerlifting specific bar/plate company very solid stuff) and Valhalla Strength (literally put out like 10 units per years lel).

Be expensi to import anything to Australia. StrongArm sport ended up being a bit cheaper than buying something from in country if it was in stock so that’s saying a lot. Dunno about strength shop, whether they import or import materials, but maybe the cost of doing this business in the UK is high.

@Koestrizer I think deadlift bar properties are pretty easy to get. Steel, thin and long gets u noodle. Knurl is a differentiating factor between bars.

It’s a Germam manufacturor. They make pretty good stuff, especially when it comes to powerlifting bars. They totally botched the knurling on their deadlift bar though. No idea why as other bars they make have sharper knurling, lol.

Maybe just a one off manufacturing defect. Perfect knurl for me would be mega grippy and only a little bit sharp. I’ve find the Texas bars are really rippy without being extra grippy for it. It feels like extra grip but isn’t really. I’ve enjoyed my StrongArm bar a lot. Well balanced more aggressive than an Rpgue bar

Life getting busy and volume training don’t mix super well. Next 6 weeks will still be working hard on life things but won’t have the travel time commitment /convenience of a home set up.

So next six weeks will try not to hit too many heavy PRs and build a base to better hit PRs for the rest of the year. Will be seeing some single arm DB work, high bar squatting etc.

Here’s how the Lockdown 2.0 set up is looking:

Made some modifications to my Aldi rack (cheap one for $180 AUD) to turn it into a sexy bench way. Squat and deadlift set ups aren’t as sexy but will have to do.

Set up lookin nice there.
Where’d you get the squat stands from?

Squats stands from Verve. I’m borrowing em off my mate because he has the full power rack now. It’ll do the job I think. Gain train chugs on.

First sesh at the lockdown 2.0 home gym. Bench feeling meh but got TnG volume in. Did some wide grip for the first time in forever didn’t feel half bad.
While DB presses are out of the picture will look to accumulate a bit of volume in wide grip see if it gets me good carryover.

Wide grip rep PR territory is there for the taking but have had shoulder/pec issues in the past with it so gotta find a nice balance between push and recover. Needs scroll back through my camera roll to check what me wide grip PRs are. My best for a single is 120kg but that’s not too useful to know.

Edit: Bit under 100kg x 10 is me best on wide grip. That was way back before me back injury though so we’ll push and see where we end up

Nice lockdown setup. Plenty of oppurtunities for gainzzz

Thanks brother. I was still a bit scared of squatting inside so moved it outside. I’m keen as ever for some gains. Stay tuned

Training outside equals more gains. Because vitamin D and flexing on neighbours.

Neighbours are all old folks but to be fair best defence against is to be healthy and best defence against frailty in old age is the gains
