Straightforward squat/bench today. New PR territory on double pause squats with a single @ 160kg and high bar with 130kg x reps. Plenty in the tank on these variations to push into.
Bench might be coming back around also. Bit early to say but feeling better these past two sessions.
Hand is going well also. Tore it up on deads not too long ago and it healed fast within like 4 days but the remaining callous has taken a while to peel off. Should be good to hook grip again soon maybe next sesh. Excited.
Picked up some figure 8s with advice from @mattjp on sizing. Cerberus is one a few brands that actually have various sizes so I grabbed a small. The smallest figures 8s I’ve ever seen but I think they’ll do a good job. If these mimic the feel of hook grip well then I may use these over lasso style straps for speed of set up
Other brands’ default size way too big for me and extend the ROM a great deal and I have to set the strap much wider than where my hands will go on the bar before twisting in to lock if u know what I mean.
I am just going to go ahead and recommend that you go get yourself some bigger hands.
Also, where the hell are you training? I can see like a stove, a sidewalk, and what I can only assume is your favorite lady’s dresses store across the way.
3hundo one day lel. I’m more curious where my calibrated plate numbers are at right. Probs try to get a lot of calibrated plate work in leading up to my first comp whether that be end of this new or start of next. Probs blow past my previous bests on calibrated plates soon.
I believe he could pull it soon but 30 kilos is 30 kilos. You take the win and push on for the next win. Being conservative is how you win. Staying healthy and conservative PRs will keep you in it for the long run for sure.
Id say Id agree looking at that speed 300KG mightve been there but it is another 66 pounds. Id like to see how the super cheat bumpers translate to calibrated plates.
Not having any stiff bar/calibrated plate work for 4 months has taken a bit off my speed off the floor but my top end strength is greatly increased. Makes sense.
Overall this actually makes for a very solid pull technically: patience at the start, maintaining position and confidence that I can finish off anything once it budges they ground.
Meme deadlifts have done more for teaching patience off the floor than pause deads apparently.
Bit of calibrated plate work for a while and off the floor will get even better. Added meme deads to Sheiko Gold as an assistance movement.
I legit laughed out loud at this haha. I def can see how it would help your patience at the start, I think im just starting to understand how this sumo stuff works after running it for 5 weeks.
Your technique is pretty damn efficient. Youll have 300 on calibrated plates before you know it.
Meme deadlifts don’t help off the floor lel not directly at least. More the confidence from em means there’s no rush off the floor i.e. patience.
Another benefit is there’s less ego attached to deadlifting now at least. Don’t need to push to 4 reds Because it’s just weight now that my max is up there somewhere.
Hands healed up so back to some hook grip on deadlifts. Felt strong today but technique wise felt like was it was all over the place.
Hit some PBs on calibrated plates including 220kg x 10 with figure 8 straps (they performed perfectly) matching my best set of 10 on the meme deadlift set up from month or two ago.
230kg x 3 for an ez strap-less calibrated plate PB (my best on calibrated plates is 240kg x 4 with straps) so a good base to build into this training cycle.
Off the floor getting more comfy quickly coming off months of bumper plate deads so I imagine a mix of meme and calibrated plate deadlifts will yield big gains over the next few months.
