All you really need to do is add 5 kilo a week every week for about a year and you will beat him for sure.

Sumo has a place in training for Strongman, depending on the individual. For me, conventional is significantly stronger and I think that’s a hamstring problem. I always thought my hammies were strong because I come out the hole so easy on raw suats. I have discovered that I’m all adductor though, and it compensate for other things. So for me, it at least seems to make my knees feel better to mix in Sumos now, and hamstring curls. Ohtherwise I get achey knees the next day after squats and it lingers for a few days.

Hmm. Is it worth training adductors directly or do the comp lifts of variations of train it adequately?

For hamstrings I’m under the impression that deadlifts need to be complemented with a curl variation but don’t have a hamstring curl machine around but I’m hoping slides do something. I’ve never really trained ham curls so maybe there’s gains there

I have never done anything special to work adductors. Probably comes from genetics and lift form combining. I would see hamstring work being a lot more important for squats than deads, but that is going to be individual.

Do you have any bands? Sit on the edge of a bench with a band wrapped around a post/rack/etc. and do 3-4 sets of 25 before hitting deads.

Check out Matt Wennings warmup stuff. All about finding weaknesses and attacking using warmups. I thought it was pretty interesting.

Having some cravings for strongman / “functional” training. Maybe after I do my first meet I’ll do some strongman stuff after my main lifts for a while for kicks. Getting bigger and stronger never really gets stale but lots of ways to go about it. Always fun to do log press and the like. Maybe do some cardio for once
