Love the spotter on your left, totally all over the place if something happens he won’t have a chance to catch it.
Throw a plate after him.
Dam calm down mate. Have u had a bad spotter experience lol
No… but then again I haven’t had that much of a weight on my back.
Just looked funny, the guy on the right was ready and concentrated on doing his job and the other jumped around.
Gettin into the wraps game? Ive thought about working them in after my meet.
Is a bit of fun but makes you miss the convenience of sleeves
Flat footwear and wider stance experiment continued today. Heavier than ever before and knee wraps for the first time with this stance. Felt interesting not amazing but interesting.
You look way more comfortable with that closed stance, man. Not just out of a technical standpoint - I just think you look like you can generate way more power.
I was just thinking the same thing.
At least in wraps with the narrow stance I can really sink it, plenty of knee bend and load the wraps they give more pop out of the bottom. There is a noticeable stick point though midway. I can probs finish strong if I get through the sticking point.
The thing is with a wider stance I feel like there’s barely any sticking point to get through.
Ultimately I wanna lift greater max weights but it’s hard to tell what’s gonna make for a bigger squat. Next time I ramp up to near and true maxes I’ll be able to better tell I think.
Tempted to take a session during deload to play with the big log press at the gym. Looks like a lot of fun and may hit some PR front squats as a warm up too to get away from heavy weights and stale movements.
You got a meet planned?
Nah. Maybe end of the year if my back stays good. Pretty full on with the masters so will see if there’s a free block
Fun today. Deads/Bench.
First time in the slingshot worked up to 140kg / 3 cookies for a double with plenty in the tank. Lots of fun so must stay disciplined and not max out on it lol. We’ll see if it has good carryover over the next few weeks.
4s on deadlift up to 220kg /480 odd lbs then light pause deadlifts @ 170kg / 375 lbs.
To really get something out of the slingshot I think you have to strain a bit, otherwise you just get the effect of handling heavier weight but your triceps aren’t working any harder than normal. There was actaully a study done (I saw it on Chris Beardsley’ instagram) that found that the slingshot actually involved the triceps less than regular bench, but the weren’t pushing close to failure. It accelerates the weight for you, which means that until it slows enough your triceps aren’t doing a whole lot.
I’m trying to rate it by RPE like scales but is the first time I’ve used the slanger so is a bit hard to tell. I’d say is about RPE 7.5. Sounds like maybe the RPE you’re describing for slingshot bench is higher then most other exercises. Will try it out
Light week coming up so probably nothing exciting in the gym this coming week.
First week of my Masters course coming up though. Mostly online which is nice in a way.
Starts by saying this… goes to the gym and sees the strongmen training and then says “hold my beer”![]()
Low key lol. But actually IR is like anti ego which is great for me. There’s no point going heavier when it’s still meh compared to others in the gym. Thin plates don’t look cool anyways so throwing on more weight ain’t impressing anyone.
I’ll leave the log press for later also. One of my mates is recovering from knee surgery and when he is healthy we gonna hit some log press together
Deloading. Trying out both mixed and hook grip. Mixed grip doesn’t rip up the back of my hand if I focus and hook grip is still a bit inconsistent. Gonna try to take better care of my hands moisturise pumice stone and stuff see if that helps maintain em.
Pretty boring session so hit some log press on the big boy for kicks. My technique is atrocious lol but still fun
